Putting this in a pastie is stupid outside of IRC. Here's the full paste :

Re: Update issues

Hello,

I wanted to say that the problem was solved. Someone on IRC suggested to run the update from the command line like this

Code: Select all
 urpmi --auto-update --debug

And it went fine. They also told me to disable the testing "media", which I did after the update.

Anyway; just to check if anything else may be wrong, here are the results of the given commands

Code: Select all

How did you add the repositories in the first place? You should definitely use another mirror, ibiblio is known to cause problem as it's not updated that often.
Also you have enabled some repos which are disabled by default, why did you do that? Now probably you already have some testing packages on your system. Please do the following as root to disable all but the regular set of repositories:
Code: Select all
urpmi.update --ignore testing

Code: Select all
urpmi.update --ignore debug

Code: Select all
urpmi.update --ignore backports

Via the drakrpm-edit-media interface.

I likely didn't understand what all those were for.

You should definitely use another mirror, ibiblio is known to cause problem as it's not updated that often.

How ? is there a list somewhere ?

Code: Select all
urpmi.update --ignore backports

I would like to keep that one. If something's ready for next release, why wait ?

Backports are not open, and probably won't be opened up during the lifetime of Mageia 1. So essentially you keep empty repositories enabled, but do as you wish.

For the mirrors, experience tells. Some mirrors are more prone to errors and more unreliable, like ibiblio and also mirror.kernel.org (because it has two aliases/servers, but one is often not reachable depending which DNS server you'Re using). For a complete listing/map take a look at http://mirrors.mageia.org/

Thanks a lot doktor5000. I presume that these mirrors should be added somewhere in /etc/ . I'll try to find that out as soon as I get to my mageia PC again.

Uhmm, what do you mean by that? Do you want to add all those mirrors or what? You don't need to find out, we can tell you.
You just need to tell what you want to do. And normally you add one set of repositories from a reliable mirror and don't need to care for it again.
