Me-TV issues

Postby ratdude747 » Apr 3rd, '12, 21:15

I am running Mageia 2 Beta 2 Under Gnome and Me-TV refuses to start.

When I run it fromt he termianl, this is all I get:

Code: Select all
$ me-tv
Me TV 1.3.6

(me-tv:5185): Unique-DBus-WARNING **: Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

My tuner is a ATI HDTV wonder...

I did install the non-free firmware package, which I assume has the nxt2004 firmware needed by the card (like that package does in other distributions).

Any suggestions?

Good question. Maybe it just needs a rebuild.

Reminds me that i've completely forgotten to update it. Hope i'll get to it before Mageia 2 release freeze is active.

after some re-installs I got me-tv to run... but the channels were not detected.

It turns out that the correct firmware was not included, and I could not get the get_dvb_firmware script to work... but I was able to run it on my laptop with fedora x64... At that point all it needed was a file copy. a reboot later and all is working.

I attached a .zip of the file to be copied to /lib/firmware/ to save other users the trouble and pain. perhaps it could be "injected" into the non-free firmware package at a future point.

Me-tv does not include any dvb firmwares, it never did. Those are in kernel-firmware-extra (or for cauldron, in kernel-firmware-nonfree)

I know me-tv did not include firmware. My point is that kernel-firmware-nonfree did not have the nxt2004 firmware (I did install it beforehand).

Well, report that as a bug against kernel-firmware-extra (which is what it is now called in cauldron, the same as kernel-firmware-nonfree in Mageia 1)

Thanks for the firmware ratdude747. I have a KWorld Plus TV that I could not get to work and now it works great.
