Postby ennael » Mar 15th, '12, 21:46

Hi there

Beta 2 is available now for tests. Here is the announcement: http://blog.mageia.org/en/2012/03/15/ma ... -the-goal/

This is the last beta for Mageia 2 and before RC. We need your tests and reports more than ever!

Thanks again all for the hard work

"Upload of live CDs isos is a bit delayed. Update of build iso tool (aka Draklive) is taking more time than planned because of dracut migration."

is this a trick to gain clicks for distrowatch? excuse me, but who are you fooling? at least write there will be no live CDs ...

It is not a trick. The explanation given is true. You don't need to keep checking distrowatch. This page will be updated when live CD iso's become available:

Everyone who works on Mageia is a volunteer and so works on Mageia in their spare time. (They also have to eat and sleep and attend to family responsibilities.) There is one person working on the live CD iso problem and that person is also the individual responsible for Mageia kernels, which I would think, have a higher priority.

More volunteers are needed and welcomed.

As a user, your feedback is important, as is its form.
Poorly considered comments can cause pain and demotivate other community members, but considerate discussion of problems can bring positive results.
An encouraging word works wonders.

@egc: Instead of unconstructive complaints, you could offer your help so that it will take less time for the live cds to be created.

I'm not complaining about the work which is done or not done in Mageia, I just complain about bullshit announcements like "live CDs isos is a bit delayed".
What do these people mean by "a bit"? A bit is not never, like with Beta1.

Well, for some people these announcements are "bullshitting announcements" - for the rest of the users these lines just say "we are working on issues with liveCD creation and hopefully we can solve them in time.".

Do you really think that anybody at Mageia would waste even a split second's time on the idea of bogus announcements just to please you for a moment? If they knew that they will not be able to supply those ISOs they would say so, why should they not? There's no reason at all in your accusation. Do something meaningful instead.

Why are you trying to deny the facts? Whats the problem with just telling the truth? That's not very meaningful! ...

wobo wrote:If they knew that they will not be able to supply those ISOs they would say so, why should they not? There's no reason at all in your accusation.

Well, Beta1 lieve CDs are still not available but the announcement "a bit delayed" is always there. Now we have Beta2 which came out on March 15th and there are only 10 days left until RC1 comes out, but the announcement says "live CDs isos are a bit delayed" ... These are just the facts.
You can try bullshitting around it and judge other people as long as you want to, but facts still remain facts.

Well, my last reply on that topic (because I'm not interested to discuss on the level of using expressions like "bullshitting"):

Beta 1: In the announcement for Beta1 they told the users that there are delays for live cds because of a problem and they are working on it. Unfortunately they did not use crystal balls so they could not give a date when the problem is going to be fixed. Then Beta2 arrived and it really makes no sense to deliver Beta1 live CDs after releasing Beta2. So they focussed on live cds for Beta 2.

Beta 2: In the announcement for Beta2 they told the users that there are delays for live cds because of a problem and they are working on it. Unfortunately they did not use crystal balls so they could not give a date when the problem is going to be fixed.

This may continue as long as they need to fix the problem. If you can help to speed this up you are very welcome.

These are the facts. If you feel "bullshitted" I can't help you and I'm not sure anybody can.

A bit delayed means "delayed until the problems are solved".
If tmb and blino - the two people working on them - could give any more precise date, they would tell it.

And perhaps one could give some credit to the people writing the announcements, since all hope the problems will be solved soonest, one is perhaps a bit optimistic about those dates given there.

And by the way, I don't understand the fuzz being made about LiveCDs. What good are they except to show someone - very basically - how a distribution looks like? Or to use them as a rescue system?

And if you are so dependent on LiveCDs, why not try and help?

According me, there is another view on LiveCD.
It is very problematic for many people to download full DVD with 3,5 GB. It is impossible for them to download so many data.
And for them, LiveCD of 700MB would be better alternative for trying Mageia 2.

For those people maybe the dualarch CD would be better, as it's more generic and the same size.

Patience Is A Virtue Of Which Some Members Obviously Do Not Possess. This Thread is Mageia 2 Beta 2 available for tests please share your reports. :D so far i see no reports and a blah blah angry bird filling all the posts with his middle finger. I choose to simply issue a silent treatment to such folks as they aren't worth the distraction. I'm working on my 3rd install of 2beta2 this one is x86_64 . problem is it has the radeon hd and i have to nomodeset to get it to load . i'm trying to figure out how to get it to boot normally after that though. i have tried rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db* then urpmi --auto-update and removing the cd-rom install from sources and enableing nonfree and tainted. i go in to MCC and click hardware it asks if i want to install the radeon-firmware etc i say yes. i also go into install software and flgrx control center . idk it seems like no matter what i try oncein reboot i get a plymouth [failed] or similar and can't get to boot again , so i reinstall and try again.

Mageia2beta2 x86 intalled on toshiba satellite and netbook i had to do the rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db* and urpmi --auto-update after changing sources to remove the cd-rom and enable the nonfree and tainted. after that though they work great and i love it ::) i use kde btw and i download the dvd first from my favorite mirror and dd it to my flash drive.

:?: if i can be more detailed to help let me know i'm kinda sick right now so i'm just rambling as best as i can and trying to get my Godbox up and running mageia 2 beta 2 64bit cause it's my media machine and i wanna watch some movies this weekend ;p while im recovering. and i sure as hell aint installing windows just to do that i'd rather trail and error mageia all weekend and never watch a single show then do that cause the corporations are getting way to

Well, what's the actual issue you have with the beta2 install? You said it doesn't boot normally, could you please specify that a bit more?
And why are you trying to fix your RPM database when you have boot problems due to the radeon graphics? Also, from what i remember, actually it should be nokmsboot not nomodeset.

The issue is obviously the radeon card and i just reinstalled trying your suggested nokmsboot it didn't boot it said failed to allocate a million times, i do the nomodeset because ive read through the forums and thats the suggested method. Nmy issue is after i get it to boot i install radeon-firmware and restart then im stuck at a plymouth failed screen. I also read about rebuilding initd or something similar ill give that a shot. Oh and the reason i rebuild my rpm database is i seem to always get the error when trying to install updates that requires you to rebuild the rpm database

Sorry, remembered wrong, it would have been radeon.modeset=0 if you don't have the firmware,
and if you have the firmware already you would still need to update the initrd's, f.ex. via
Code: Select all
bootloader-config --action rebuild-initrds

This has most likely been answered before, but, where would I go looking for cauldron RPM packages. I just recently tried updating a computer, but it has misbehaving wifi ...and no ethernet port, so I'm limited to downloading a few select packages to get "over the bump", or waiting for a fix to appear in a later Beta 3 or RC iso.

Cauldron RPM-packages can be found in many places like:
