Movie Playing suddenly does not work

Until about a week ago, I used to be able to watch movies on Mageia with a DVD player just fine. Than, for no apparent reason, I started getting an error message stating (in Movie Player) "An error occurred. Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed." Using xine, I get this message: "The source can't be read. Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data (e.g. not disc in drive). (Error reading NAV packet.)

I have tried multiple DVDs and two players with the same results.

I have re-installed all the gstreamer plugins that seem appropriate, and I've bought and installed a set of commercial codecs from Fluendo.

Nothing works. Any suggestions?

It sounds like a hardware failure. How old is your DVD drive?

Not young, but I've tried two drives. I'm ready to buy a new one....

I do get a failure to mount message, but then it opens the "Open with..." dialog box where I can pick Movie Player or xine.

I've tried an open domain DVD and it works fine. So, I think it has to do with codexes and / or plugins.

Here's the output:

To read an encrypted commercial DVD it may be necessary to install

 - libdvdcss2-1.2.10-3.mga1
 - libdvdread4-4.1.3-6.mga1

Pls beware that the use of libdvdcss2 may not be legal in all countries!

That worked wobo, though only with movie playor, not with xine. But, I'm happy. Since I paid for a legal set of codixes (that don't work), I'm not overly concerned about the legality. Thank you very much.

When posting a new topic or reply in an existing topic use the "New Topic", or "Postreply"-button.
This will bring up the forums' editing-tool. From here you'll have tools to edit your text.
In the case of tagging text:
this can be done by selecting that portion of your post in the forum editor, and pressing the "Code"-button above the forum editor.

May i ask which legal set of codexes you're talking about? Also consider not using xine or mplayer, try something like vlc instead, works much better.
