Mageia 1 boot.iso & 32-bit DVD iso install & update fail

Postby wilcal » Mar 4th, '12, 05:39

Today I tried to install Mageia 1 from two sources.
They were:

mageia-dvd-1-i586.iso 30 May 2011
installed just fine but failed to update
due to missing packages in the repo.
Source repo is: mirrors.kernel.org

boot.iso ( 32-bit ) 30 May 2011
using both my local repo and its
source mirrors.kernel.org. Again
missing ( many ) files.

Could someone else give it a try from
one of the European repos. Thanks

mirrors.kernel.org has very often been reported as being faulty now and then.
I'm doing regular updates from a European mirror.
What else do you need?

A list or even partial list of the missing rpms/files would be helpful.

BTW: I also have a local mirror rsync'ed from kernel.org and tried re-rsync'ing it from distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr and there were no changes so I can only conclude that kernel.org is not the problem.

Do a clean, new install from the original Mageia 1 DVD
or use the Mageia 1 32-bit boot.iso and a European
repo. Install to a completely blank drive. http://www.killdisk.com
or http://www.dban.org

In your opinion what is the most accurate and up-to-date
European repo. I don't mind using that it just takes a long
time do to the long distance and low speed install. I've used:

distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr

in the past, just takes 4x then from mirrors.kernel.org

Thanks

A couple weeks ago I was able to do a new DVD install of
Mageia 1 and update cleanly from it. The computer I am
using now is that system. Also a boot.iso installed using
my local repo ( rsyn'd to mirrors.kernel.org ) worked just
fine.

OT: as already mentioned, there's no need to blank your drive before you install and with some
storage media like SSDs you will also needlessly decrease overall lifetime of the disk.

I somewhat agree with this. It's an old old habit of mine.
The install process on Mageia allows you to reformat
the drive. I'll try to abstain from mentioning this :o

That would be greatly appreciated here ;)
