Neither did Alpha 2 or Alpha 3 installers. They all stop after accepting the liscense. Anyone else seeing this?

It worked for me. Twice. Remind me, what is the next stage after accepting the license?

When it stops during installation you can switch to a console where you will see the system messages. Sometimes you see helpful information:
Press Ctrl+Alt+F12 to see the messages, Alt+F7 or Alt+F1 to get back to the installation screen.

Partitioning. It actually quits after it loads a driver for IDE controller for nVidia C-51 chipset. I think that's mainly for the HD.

Thanks for the helpful hint. I've got some work to do now but will take another look this evening. I was looking at Ctrl+Alt+F2,3, &4 and didn't see anything that stood out.

Today I've been successful to install and update

Mageia-2-beta1-x86_64-DVD.iso 21-Feb-2012

into Vbox. Repo source is mirrors.kernel.org

Would that be sata_nv or something else?

I came across this tonight while I was doing some housekeeping on bugs I had opened. It looks like it may be relevant.

Thanks for informing. This seems pertinent to my issue. As my work is 12 hours daily Mon-Wed [with 4-12 hours on Sunday] I'll look further when I get time maybe Thur, or Fri.

I'll need to take a look at that when I have some time. As I recall it seemed to be related to IDE not sata but I have 2 HD's one 1TB sata and one 320GB IDE. So hardware confusion is possible and it is possible I need to do something physically with jumpers on the 2 HD's. ? The operating systems are on the 320 GB IDE drive. The 1TB sata drive is for data storage only. And I'm a printing pressman masquerading as a Linux hacker... Meaning my computer knowledge is that of a layman not any any way trained.

The failure to continue past the license agreement has "booted me out" of trying to work with Beta 1. My HD controller is an ATI SB700 or similar (I think the installation message before quitting is "Installing ATI SBx070," but that's only part of the information given and it goes by too quickly to record). I didn't know about the console trick, so I'll try it next time.

This also is a problem with the more recent boot.isos. I tried the installation with the March 3 boot-nonfree.iso hoping the problem had been solved. Nope.

I tried again and this time, using a USB stick, I'm now to the point of downloading a massive load of updates -- 450MB or so.

I discovered that my BIOS had a floppy drive enabled, even though there isn't one. That prevented Parted Magic 2010_02_19 and _27 from booting, something that is documented in the PM forum. I had a hunch, just a wild idea, that maybe the same thing was causing My M2B1 troubles, so this time I got past the license agreement so fast I have neck problems now from the whiplash. I also have applied "nomodeset" to the kernel arguments, so that probably helps, too. Think I read something about that in the release notes, and I recalled having done that with an Alpha or three.

And it's not February anymore. That always helps....

Well when my freezes there is an I/O error 'cause it can't find fd0. On my box there is no floppy drive and there isn't anything in my BIOS to turn floppy drive on/off. Is there a boot option or some other way to get the installer to stop looking for a non-existent floppy drive?
Thanks,
Ben

I'm surprised there is no option for a "Drive A" in your BIOS. It's on the first screen of mine, along with the clock setting and the HD and CD/DVD drive settings.

Try adding "blacklist=floppy" without the quotes to your kernel arguments line on boot. I'm not sure that is a solution, but it's worth a try.

Wow, I can be a real dumb a** sometimes! There is something in my BIOS to turn off a floppy drive. Mageia installs no problem. Now I can test. IATC. Idiot At The Controls. Thanks DShelbyD and everyone for the tips.
