[SOLVED] How to install Goldendict from source

Postby TabletHater » Feb 28th, '12, 03:09

I've read that Goldendict is going to be included in the repository, but it is the only real dict app and I need it. I can't find the dependency packages in Mageia software manager. Can someone help?

Edit: In addition to the packages Dok has listed below you need to install these too with their devel packages:

Code: Select all
lib64bzip2, lib64qtwebkit (and maybe lib64xtst)

So you want to compile it from source? Why not just use the prebuilt linux version?
But here are the dependencies to compile it from source, just run the following command as root:
Code: Select all
urpmi oggvorbis-devel zlib-devel hunspell-devel x11-proto-devel qt4-devel gcc-cpp "pkgconfig(xtst)" phonon-devel

Thank you good Doktor. I couldn't see a prebuilt linux version. Just found a Mandriva built, but read that it's not a good idea to use that.

We noobs are like blind fish! But I couldn't manage to have that way. I've extracted it to desktop. The extracted folder is called "Content". Then created a folder called "goldendict" and put that "Content" folder inside "goldendict" and put the "goldendict" folder inside /usr/local/share/applications. Then, nothing. No goldendict app in the menu. Tried the tar command in terminal and that hasn't work either.

Yes, as it only contains the dictionary content. Compiling goldendict should be just fine if you install above listed packages,
and then extract the goldendict source code you need to download from http://downloads.sourceforge.net/golden ... rc.tar.bz2
afterwards change into the goldendict directory and do the following:
Code: Select all
qmake && make

followed by (as root)
Code: Select all
make install

I'll take a look at importing it for Mageia ...

Edit the subject of the first post, and prefix it with [SOLVED].

Here is the third-party Mageia1 repository, containing some useful packages, that can't be found in the official Mageia repos (yet):
http://mageia1.ru/i586_eng.html
http://mageia1.ru/x86_64_eng.html
Both of them offer GoldenDict.
I am using it and it works just fine.

Actually, there exist 3 more unofficial repos (that I am aware of), but what is the Mageia opinion on that? Should I mention them here? ;-)

Maybe in a separate thread, why not?
