[SOLVED] aac encoded files play with no sound using mplayer

Postby bradm0 » Jan 31st, '12, 01:16

When I play video files that have aac encoding I see this message
Trying to force audio codec driver family libmad...
Opening audio decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders
Cannot find codec 'aac' in libavcodec...
ADecoder init failed :(
ADecoder init failed :(
Requested audio codec family [faad] (afm=faad) not available.
Enable it at compilation.
Cannot find codec for audio format 0x4134504D.
Audio: no sound
Starting playback...

I found this bug which seemed to indicate that a fix had been posted to the repositories
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4284

I'm running Mageia 1 (32-bit) and have the following rpms installed
libffmpeg52-0.6.5-0.1.mga1
ffmpeg-0.6.5-0.1.mga1
mencoder-1.0-1.rc4.0.r32713.5.3.mga1
mplayer-1.0-1.rc4.0.r32713.5.3.mga1

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

You need to get mplayer from the 'tainted updates' repository.
You should check if you have the tainted updates repository enabled in MCC>Software>Media

Thanks. I now realize that I had enabled the 'tainted' repository but not the 'tainted updates' repository. That did it. Thanks very much.
