With the broadband dongle not plugged in to your box, open up a terminal, and launch the following command as root :
Code: Select all
tailf /var/log/messages

then wait a few seconds, plugin the dongle, again wait a few secons, until there is no added output,
and post the whole output here, but please use a Code-block.

The [Code] - button above the forum editor, it's used for marking longer text outputs.
You can also do it manually like in the following example:
[ code ] some really long text output [ /code ]

Just remove the spaces within the bracket's if you use it like this.
But best copy&paste the code into the forum editor, select the text you want
to be displayed as code, and press the above mentioned [Code] - button.

Re: Problems with Broadband Dongle

Weird, after you plug it, it's recognized as usb storage, which is normal. Then it's switched to modem mode,
the driver for option modem recognizes it successfully, but shortly before the end of you log, directly before Jan 17 17:10:39
it's switched again. But it seems to be bogus.

Does the LED turn on on your dongle? I've also got a ZTE dongle, albeit a different, it's an MF110.
It behaves the same, but in the end the LEd turns green. Then i just started drakconnect,
setup a new GPRS/EDGE/3G connection, skipped the PIN, selected my provider, and that's it,
now i'm online with that thing.

Can you please try the same? Plug it in, then from Mageia Control Center -> Network & Internet - > Set up a new network interface (LAN, ISDN, ADSL, ...)
and proceed as described above. Does that work?

Nope shouldn't matter, as the connections are managed seperately from each other, because you might have
even more than one active connection at a given time, imagine a laptop with wifi access, who gets then connected via ethernet.

Re: Problems with Broadband Dongle

Postby doktor5000 » Jan 20th, '12, 13:49

You could take a look at http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/#trouble
related quote:
Annother notorious candidate is again 19d2:2000. It may be switched O.K. by an existing rule, but there is no driver loading if your model is new and its ID is not yet added to the "option" module.
Disable the rule running "eject" and the ID will be handled by usb_modeswitch.

which seems to be the case for your. You could try to enable logging as described there, and attach the resulting log here.
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!
