At the time Gimp didn't launch, were you using KDE, with oxygen style & window decorations?
Was oxygen-gtk installed, and selected in: System settings >> GTK Styles and Fonts >> GTK Styles?

Gimp also not starting for you, with oxygen-gtk installed? Then please reopen above linked bugreport,
and provide this information as oxygen-gtk will likely be good candidate for a default theme for Mageia 2.

For me, i didnt have ./gimp-* folder and reinstalling gimp didnt create that. I copyed it from test user and it started to work.

The point is finding out why you didn't have that folder, as gimp should have created it with the default settings on first run.
And if this is caused by your choice of oxygen-gtk2 theme, this is definitely a reason to reopen the bug and provide this as a reproducable test case.
I'll check it myself on latest cauldron.

I found the solution to this problem a couple of months ago, in the internet (since that problem was present in other distros too).
I happened to me, in 2 out of 6 or 7 Mageia 1 KDE installations I did (x86_64).
The solution is:
1. Go to: System settings >> GTK Styles and Fonts >> GTK Styles >> Use another style , and choose Raleigh style.
2. Save changes
3. Launch Gimp (it starts with that -rather bad to my taste- Raleigh style).
4. When Gimp is up, don't use it. Just close it.
5. Then, go again to: System settings >> GTK Styles and Fonts >> GTK Styles >> Use another style , and choose oxygen-gtk style.
6, Save the changes
7. Launch Gimp (it starts correctly, in oxygen-gtk style).

That's it!
You only have to do it once, the first time.

I don't know the real reason, for this "behavior", but I think you should know about that solution.
Maybe the experienced users, and devs, can find an answer.

Well, if it's reproducable, it should be reported upstream to gimp developers ...

I'm not a tech-guy, but I think it doesn't seem to be a gimp bug, but more like a "glitch" (or a bug) in oxygen-gtk.

But IMHO it's not something so important to prevent the use of oxygen-gtk as a default theme for Mageia 2.
