Test of Mageia beta2 on a recent PC (one year)

Postby Lebarhon » May 2nd, '11, 22:16

Hello
I tried the brand new Magiea beta2 64bits in French, KDE4.
PC Mother board Asus M4A77D AM2+ with AMD Phenom II X4 945 Quad core, 4 Gb RAM, GC Asus EAH 4350 (Radeon HD 4350). Windows 7 and MDV 2010.2 installed.
- The French language is placed in America
- Partitioning screen : there are hieroglyphs in the blue bar of the Windows partition
If you choose an installation via "ADSL" (in French) the last line isn't translated : Allow interface to be controlled by network manager.
- Installation : Waouh ! 1286 paquetages in only 6 Min !
- Abstract or recap ? ("resumé" in French) : The sound card appear twice. The graphic card isn't OK
- Quit : Congratulations ! all in English except the title "Félicitations !"

Reboot very long, there is a problem, reboot again automatically, same time and finally appear the connection screen all black. Connection and the Mageia Cauldron appear for a flash and again the black screen behind the desk. The task manager is there. It is impossible to change the video driver either by MCC or Konsole, each time it is a total crash with no prompt and no possibility to have a tty after a click on a new driver, free or proprietary. Only one way to quit: hard reboot, very long again and so on....
I filed the bug 1105.
Good nigth (but the dev :D )

What driver are you using for graphics card ?

Try to start using failsafe ("mode dégradé")
and when in shell, use init 3 to go to non graphics mode. (Witout X)
and get all things that seems to fail, and cause the reboot very long ...

Then, you can log as root to setup graphics card with
Code: Select all
XFdrake

and start X server with
Code: Select all
service dm start

Again, check if there are not errors ...

And when you reboot, press ESC to see the logs and report what's wrong ...

During the boot, the scrolling is too fast a lot to be read.
I will try failsafe when I am near the PC. (and take a screenshot for Anne)

I made all that and it is very funny, after init 3 in the shell, it asked me to enter a login. There, the keyboard is dum, some letters don't appear where they are intended to and others appear anywhere, even in the Password field usually so silent. So, I couldn't try anything.

Looks like a word starting with "R" with some french characters or accents - as this is mostly a reserved partition for Windows my best guess is "Réservé". Looks like the image can not show the correct charset.

Hello,

Yes, it is "Réservé" in French. It's a partition of 100 Mo with 72% free. (I don't know why this partition exists since this PC come from a local IT shop and I didn't ask anything but able to run with Linux along Win7)

Hi,
Happy news, with Mageia RC, the display is OK. Good Job. But, there still exist a problem with the 3D. Compiz is OK, but if I choose Metisse, the system says "The package x11-server-xmetisse is needed, install it ? If I click "yes", the system answers "no packtage called x11-server-xmetisse". (The mirrors are OK)
