Mount couldn't find filesystems '/dev/root'

Thanks for the welcome. When I saw it I knew I need to have it. Mageia is a nice distro but... After install I cannot load it. Neither Mageia nor the 2 kernels they updated.
The install went great, and afterwards the update. I made 3 partitions as always as I install a linux distro - perhaps that's what went wrong. I usually make a /boot, one / and a swap, swap is usually 2 gb.
The computer I'm running is AMD Phenom II X4 at 3,8 (it's actually a x2 560 phenom black box unlocked)
I love linux and Mandriva was great for me when I had it on a laptop. It's a wonder that it always gets all the drivers right and so on,...

Could someone PM and point me to the right direction - partitioning-wise - because after the install and update a lot of things that I don't understand were written (it got on boot, to the 3rd dot, then the black screen with these lines:
CREATING ROOT DEVICE
MOUNTING ROOT FILESYSTEM
mount couldn't find filesystems '/dev/root'
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill (init) or (unit?)
Pid: 1, comm: init Not tainted 2.6.38.7
...
then a lot of f's were in about ten lines, the computer rebooted so I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to right it down.

I'm a newbie linux user, as you can see, so please help. I see something selfexplanatory dev/root - I probably should have made a partition but I don't know which are needed for this disto of Mageia.
The /boot, /, and swap were always enough for the past distors I used. So to conclude - PM me or mail - how to reinstall and which partitions are needed.

PMs for support issues are not recommended, because the solutions to that problem
would be exchanged in private and not helpful to others, that's why the forums exist

Actually you don't need to create partitions manually, if you let the installer do it automatically
it would create a /, /home and swap, that is the recommended setup for a average desktop installation.
As you don't provide more information, like the contents of the /etc/fstab and output f.ex. from fdisk -l
so we can see what partitions are there, what went wrong and resulting from that, how to proceed,
it's rather difficult to give you exact instructions what to do now.

I'd reinstall, do custom partitioning, remove those three partitions you created before, create a / partition with like 10-15GB,
depending on how much size you can afford overall, a swap partition at least the same of your RAM, and a /home with as much space as
you want / can afford.

Thanks for the mouning help, I made an "/", "boot" "/home# and swap.
Now, for a noob like me, I need more help.

Considering myself as Jack-of-all-trades, meaning I try everything, electronics, wood crafting, web design and graphic, making movies, writing... but never quite finished and ditch it. Windows-wise and computer, I was in it from the beginings in Croatia and had a little book I got from a Commodore 64. Then I knew Basic better than now... (Jack-of-all-shi*) someone would say.

I got this problem, concerning Mageia. It boots nicely, then it doesnt boot a KDE desktop, but a command line. I tried to get in typing: "xstart" but that didn't work.
Oh, and please that someone suggest me a good linux ebook for dummies or idiots like me.

Well, we would need to know what graphics card you have.
You should at least be able to run drakx11 as root and select
as graphics card Xorg -> vesa and then reboot, that should get you a running x server.

The command is 'startx' - but I recommend following the doctor's advice. It's always good to follow doctor's advice, at least you can sue him if the therapy fails!

CPU: Phenom X2 II 560 BLACK EDITION- overcooked to Phenom X4 II @ 3,8 with a Mugen 3 cooler
RAM: 2 X 4 Gb GSkill PC3 1280
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-880GM - UD2H
PS: Corsair GS800

the thing about the config: I'm living in a shitty situation, boring people with death and asking politely if they have and/or need a web-site, an add etc.
therefore such ammount of ram and the amd overclocked - and I'm saving for an Ati Firepro Workstation GPU so I can make better 3d graphics and also render better and faster in Adobe Premiere and AfterEffects.
so I went from a shitty comp to this... and as I'm unemployed - doing part time any job so I can make my site (which I asked if I can add up here) Legal. And the company.

I downloaded a linux bible, hope to get things running, as I said, love linux and willing to participate...

So how do I get the mofo going?
