How to connect to NAS on my network

How to connect to NAS on my network

Postby comeinandburn » Nov 24th, '11, 04:15

Hi All,

I've just recently installed Mageia and everything seems great except I don't see my Network Attached Storage device that's on my network. Even when I try to connect to server, use SAMBA etc... I haven't had any luck. Can someone give me some basic instructions how to do this?

thanks

p.s. because of this I'm unable to connect to my wireless printer as well.

I managed to answer my own question and I'll post it here in case others have the similar problem.

I was able to go to "places", then "connect to server", there is a prompt window which allows you to choose the type of server to connect to.

In my case I'm connecting to "windows share", there are then 3 dialogue boxes that need to be filled in.

(Server) which is the ip address.. something like 192.168.0.xxx, (Folder) mine was the mount folder "///Volume_1", (User) the username set in the login share parameters of the network storage.

Then you have the choice to add a "bookmark", and name it for future connections. When you logout this connection will need to be reconnected but with the "bookmark" you'll just need to enter your NAS password.

Hope this helps someone,

p.s. if anyone has any idea how to connect to a printer on the same network I'd love to hear about it:)

In Mageia Control Center -> Hardware -> Set up the printer(s), the print job queues, ...
Let it install the packages and then add your network printer. If it doesn't find it,
you can always use the CUPS printer management web frontend to add a printer,
it will automatically search for all connected printers, also on the network.

Please, please, keep topics separated, so just one topic for each issue.
Thanks. ;)
