Postby laskachien » Jun 5th, '13, 21:47

Hello I want to change the horrible long name of the dwnld dir who is also in french!
"Téléchargements" and a new name it simple and clear with "dwnld",that s well possible but my doubt is:
Do the download manager reconize the new name?Or must I too edit the manager, and how???Thanks

Which download manager? In firefox go to edit> preferences and on the general tab check the box to ask for a download destination every time. Then on your next download point it to your directory. From thereafter it'll remember that destination until you manually change it.

On that preferences> general page you can also specify a single download location that will be used every time. (ie don't change the radio button to 'ask every time' but rather change the destination folder)

Konqueror has similar properties.

Ok I now think that is simple forMozeilla manager, but what s with MAgeia downloads for packs and updates.I think it use it s own manager dwnld, and will not reconize the new nama of the dwnld dir?

urpmi temporarily downloads to /var/cache/urpmi. I think it would be in the urpmi config file where you'd specify (and change) that parameter. The config would be in /etc somewhere, /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg perhaps.

It seems not really clear what you want.

First you talked about changing the name of ~/Téléchargements which is a folder in your /home/username.
That can be easily done by renaming/moving it, and changing in your applications like Firefox that you want to use that
new directory. Or create a symbolic link ~/Téléchargements which points to the directory /home/username/dwnld,
then you don't need to change anything, and everything that you save to ~/Téléchargements will actually be located in
/home/username/dwnld

Now you also want to change the folder for Mageia packages/updates ... that is something totally different.
Please describe clearly what you want.

Ok, your answer is like an explaination of sometimes i don't know that for example Firefox download dir and the download dir for URPMI is something totally different. Otherwise, i can change the name of the dir of Firefox, this will not interfere with the dir of URPMI. Is it right ?
Thanks

Yes that is right. Basically urpmi uses a system directory, and what you want to change only affects your user, not the whole system.
