SKYPE and PULSEAUDIO

SKYPE and PULSEAUDIO

Postby jdcoudf » Mar 21st, '14, 18:50

Hello,

I have installed the MAGEIA 4 (version 32bits) on my portable computer.

But SKYPE (version 4.2.0.11) is uncapable to connect and work with PULSEAUDIO.
Each time I want to use SKYPE, I have first to desactivate PULSEAUDIO
in the MAGEIA Control Center.
Then SKYPE works correctly with ALSA, but my other SOUND applications
do not work any more, because they require PULSEAUDIO.

To SUM UP the problem :
-PULSEAUDIO is NOT activated : SKYPE works but NOT my other SOUND applications,
-PULSEAUDIO is activated : SKYPE does not work but my other SOUND applications
work CORRECTLY.

Thank you for your HELP.

Florent.

For Skype we have a MAQeia: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1121
Please read through it, especially the last posts.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.

I have read the posts you mentionned but no one seems relevant to my case.

SKYPE does not function with PULSEAUDIO,but only when reverting to ALSA.
But in this case the other applications needing PULSEAUDIO do not function
any more.

Bye!!

Assuming you are using KDE, HOPEFULLY you have verified that your KDE specific sound configuration is correct. Skype, unlike most applications, is very dependent on KDE sound configuration settings when using pulse audio.

Thank you for your reply!!! I think I did any possible attempt to change the parameters of my configuration(KDE, PULSEAUDIO) with no result.
I bought my laptop by an European firm specialized in LINUX, because I did not want to pay for a MICROSOFT license.
But I am amazed to have problems with a so popular Software as SKYPE.
How do the people using UBUNTU.
Perhaps I have a problem with the SOUND CARD (Intel Corporation | 8 Series/C220 Series ChipsetHigh Definition Audio Controler).
Bye!!!

Pretty constructive & helpful comment. Apart from that, Skype works just fine here, no issues encountered since Microsoft bought Skype.

@jdcoudf: You didn't wrote what you tried in particular - "any particular attempt to change the parameters of your configuration" may already
include breakage you caused by fiddling with the sound setup. Could you simply enable pulseaudio again, and then please try skype
under a newly created user?

Also please as normal user post the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i -e pulse -e sound ~/.Skype/*/config.*

Not to start a flame war...

I will take that with a dash of sarcasm...

By the way, is not me saying that.

I have heard people that uses MS OS complaining about the same that Skype is not the same since they bought it.
From drop calls to lagging and even quality of service.

Sorry, but I don't care about MS, and this is no MS forum. Keep it on topic please.

This is no discussion-type thread, this is a support thread - this is a user having issues with skype and pulseaudio.
If you want to discuss about Skype, quality of Microsoft products and whatnot then open your own thread in viewforum.php?f=5
This is the last friendly reminder.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.

I was probably not very complete when I wrote my first
post on your Forum.

But when I installed MAGEIA on my laptop for the first time
and then creating the first user, I had the surprise to see that
SKYPE and PULSEAUDIO did function but only ONCE.
After my first disconnection, it was finished.

I was of course very disappointed but I was unable to make it work
again and I was obliged to return to ALSA(disabling PULSEAUDIO)
and to put a message on your Forum.

BUT after your last post I have tried, as suggested, to create another
user.

I got the same surprise, after the first connection : SKYPE and
PULSEAUDIO do function but only ONCE.
After the ensuing disconnection, it is finished.

Bye!!!

Capitalisation is only meant for first letter in a sentence or name usually, NOT FOR COMPLETE WORDS - that is considered shouting.
