[SOLVED] scanner - xsane

Postby MontyWilliams » Jul 22nd, '12, 00:46

xsane does not see the USB scanner - only the USB webcam.

output of
Code: Select all
sane-find-scanner
run as su or user
Code: Select all
found USB scanner (vendor=0x046d, product=0x08b2) at libusb:001:002
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x011b [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:005:002

output of
Code: Select all
lsusb
run as su or user
Code: Select all
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 04b8:011b Seiko Epson Corp. Perfection 2400 Photo
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:08b2 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Pro 4000

output of
Code: Select all
scanimage -L
run as su or user
Code: Select all
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 virtual device

xsane defaults to the webcam, does not offer choice. Get same result logged in as root.

Control centre ->configure scanner does not see the device. Have configured manually - get message saying device is configured, get this message afterwards:
[quoteThe following scanner (the webcam) is available on your system.
[/quote]
Should see both devices.

MCC -> hardware -> detected hardware shows the scanner OK.

mageia 2 x86-64
Did not have problem with previous mageia 1 or mandriva.

Ideas? Need to set permissions?

Cheers

I have exactly the same problem (Epson Perfection 1640 SU0 on Mageia2x86-32. There are in between about 5 bugreports in bugzilla, but it seems that no one has the opportuniry to fix it until now. It's a pity, because otherwise it is a perfect distribution. Except the scanner everything works, even the Samsung CLP-315 printer, which didn't work with Mageia 1 and Mandriva.!

Maybe the mentioned model needs a specific firmware which is contained in the iscan-backend. Try installing the packages sane-backend-iscan and iscan-plugin-gt-f500.
for windows problems reboot; for linux problems be root

installed "sane-backend-iscan"
No change.

Where is "iscan-plugin-gt-f500"? Does not appear to be applicable.

Note: this scanner was and still is working in mageia 1.

Have you tried the drivers from http://avasys ?

My 3170 works with those but only iscan can can see it not xsane.

With Mandriva 2008 installing the avasys drivers permitted xsane to see and use the scanner.

The only thing I'm missing is the ability to scan to PDF.

Note that MCC cannot see the scanner even after manual configuration says driver is installed.
I.e. problem is more fundamental than xsane.

Yes but will the drivers from avasys allow iscan to see it?

Is this the same problem?

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5376

If so, it might be worthwhile trying the workaround in Comment 5

The bug fix (uncommenting epson in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf) enables the device to be seen. However it is identified as a GT-9300 just to confuse me - that is the Japanese designation.
I see that the Perfection 2400 photo is no longer a listed device in the MCC configuration options.

I will mark the thread as solved.

Cheers
