Postby adhefe » Aug 3rd, '24, 02:52

Hi,
After last updates, pulseaudio does not start. Connection refused.
Laptop sound is OK with mageia 9 live usb.
Any one else with the same problem?
Thanks

Alternatively, installed pipewire and it is working fine
Pulseaudio may be broken by last updates

Thanks

Thank you for the feedback.
I asked update testers if someone can take a look here.

Have you changed sound system since install?

What method did you use now to switch to pipewire?

Can't reproduce this issue in clean installed and updated VM
What desktop are you using?
We need you, please switch back to use pulseaudio to debug this

I'm using Plasma, I believe this is default. I've never changed it.

I've been using the default, i.e. pulseaudio, till it stop working.
I've installed pipewire using MCC => Hardware => sound configuration => Pipewire with WirePlumber

Then MCC required the installation of some packages and reboot.

My pleasure!
I'll need the sound tomorrow morning. Afternoon, I'll switch back to pulseaudio (in failsafe mode?).
Then, what else should I do to help debugging this?

I assume by your reply in the bug https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33425#c33, that you use Plasma KDE as desktop
So check .local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log (or wayland equivalent if you use Plasma Wayland) to see if something more info about pulseaudio fail is there.

This of course after switch back to pulseaudio reboot and start session

I've noticed I have not said why I marked this topic as solved.

Pulseaudio seems to be working fine now after deinstallation (pipewire installing) and reinstallation.
Although i cannot say exactly what made it work, I think some file reporting problems possibly yielding the pulseaudio failure was removed in deinstallation.

The content of .local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log, differently from what is found in two other mageia 9 installation, now is empty.

Once more, thanks a lot.
