New DVD Creation from ISO failed

New DVD Creation from ISO failed

Postby dfgrbac » Aug 26th, '22, 23:36

At benmc's request, I am reopening this problem. It appeared I had the same problem as golf4fun.

I also had no apparent errors running DeVeDee combined with k3b until k3b tried to finalize the disk. The disk was useless, VLC could not open it. Here are the last few lines of debug log.
Code: Select all
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 3269984256/3377672192 (96.8%) @4.5x, remaining 0:16 RBU 100.0% UBU  97.9%

 3335749632/3377672192 (98.8%) @7.1x, remaining 0:06 RBU 100.0% UBU  96.5%
:-[ WRITE@LBA=192a60h failed with SK=5h/ASC=21h/ACQ=04h]: Invalid argument
:-( write failed: Invalid argument
/dev/sr0: flushing cache

growisofs command:
-----------------------
/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/sr0=/dev/fd/0 -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=4gms -use-the-force-luke=tracksize:1649254 -use-the-force-luke=dao:1649254 -dvd-compat -speed=8 -use-the-force-luke=bufsize:32m
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then I tried golf4fun's solution (without rerunning DeVeDee) and just gave k3b the iso file previously created. Same result as above. I wondered if the iso file was bad, so I ran DeVeDee again, and closed it when complete without burning. I used k3b to burn it. Got another equally useless disk VLC could not open.

Then I tried running DeVeDee again creating a new iso file. I closed DeVeDee with no burn. Used k3b to burn and got excited after k3b said success. But it showed an error and the disk was useless. Here are the last few debug lines from that attempt.

Code: Select all
3297214464/3377315840 (97.6%) @7.1x, remaining 0:11 RBU 100.0% UBU  97.9%
 3330146304/3377315840 (98.6%) @7.1x, remaining 0:06 RBU 100.0% UBU  97.9%
/dev/sr0: flushing cache
:-[ FLUSH CACHE failed with SK=5h/ASC=21h/ACQ=04h]: Invalid argument

growisofs command:

I wish I had access to the force, Luke.

What size is the .iso file that was created by DeVeDee, and as what size does it show when loading it in k3b ?

3.1 GiB is the file size created by DeVeDee (actually its name is indicated as DevedeNG), AND K3B shows the same file size coming in.

Now today I am getting other strange system errors. This is going to take some time. I might have to reload mageia.

Don't know when I will be back.

I AM BACK! Had a lot of interruptions.
Anyway, I tried again using DEVEDE with a rewritable disk with the same apparent error. Looking closely, I see some messaging differences that are meaningless to me - like 4.1x and 7.1x, or aborting before or after flushing cache. Here are the messages this time:

Code: Select all
 3302195200/3377319936 (97.8%) @4.1x, remaining 0:15 RBU 100.0% UBU  96.5%
 3320905728/3377319936 (98.3%) @4.1x, remaining 0:11 RBU 100.0% UBU  99.3%
 3339616256/3377319936 (98.9%) @4.1x, remaining 0:07 RBU 100.0% UBU  99.3%
:-[ WRITE@LBA=1929b0h failed with SK=5h/ASC=21h/ACQ=04h]: Invalid argument
:-( write failed: Invalid argument
/dev/sr0: flushing cache

growisofs command:
-----------------------
/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/sr0=/dev/fd/0 -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=4gms -use-the-force-luke=tracksize:1649082 -use-the-force-luke=dao:1649082 -dvd-compat -speed=4 -use-the-force-luke=bufsize:32m

Can someone please help? Is there a k3b forum I could ask?

Quick net search of "failed with SK=5h/ASC=21h/ACQ=04h]: Invalid argument" gives
https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... 175598081/
I am by far an expert, but there are some test ideas there.

k3b forum is probably the best place to continue.

By the way, I don't know if this is relevant but Mageia has been giving some error messages on start-up for the last month or so. It didn't seem to effect anything that I could tell.

FYI, my system is an HP all-in-one monitor with an I3 8th gen CPU. The messages clear quickly, so it's hard to catch them.

Essentially they say:
... could not resolve symbol...
... could not execute command due to above error...

This repeats three times, and the system starts.

You could easily check those messages after boot has completed, as root via
Code: Select all
journalctl -ab
and then search with / for "could not" or whatever it says.

Still no response from k3b forum. Just saying.
No time to focus on this problem though. The Great Reset causes must be understood.

after creating the .ISO with DEVEDE, have you checked that it is directly playable with Xine /VLC/Parole/totem... etc?

if you are creating an unplayable .ISO, it wont matter if K3B is working ok, the disk you burn will not be playable.
