[SOLVED]snd_hda_intel: no codecs found - no sound

Postby broncosman » Apr 6th, '24, 02:54

After rebooting my PC today, I found that I could no longer boot into Mageia. Every time it would just hang after displaying the following error messages:

dracut: Cancelling resume operation. Device not found.

CORB reset timeout#1, CORBRP = 0

snd_hda_intel: no codecs found!

After researching a bit online, I found a solution for the boot issue. I used another bootable distro to access my drive, and then I made a file called my-alsa.conf in /etc/modprobe.d , in which I put the following line:

options snd-hda-intel enable=0,1,0

After this, I was able to boot into Mageia. However, now I have no sound. The taskbar widget says "No output or input devices found". It doesn't matter if I use PulseAudio or PipeWire - no sound either way.

Here is my lspci:

Code: Select all
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 8th Gen Core Processor Host Bridge/DRAM Registers (rev 07)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6th-10th Gen Core Processor PCIe Controller (x16) (rev 07)

Please help.

Hi there, you don't mention what Mageia release you're using and what kernel you're booting that has the issue, and the last kernel version where it was OK.
Current would be Mageia 9 and kernel 6.6.22

The sound device should not prevent resuming, although the absence of a swap device (or reformatting that or changing the UUID of the swap device) would do that.
So you should remove your /etc/modprobe.d/my-alsa.conf and boot regularly and provide a journal log.
It would be helpful if you could run
Code: Select all
journalctl -ab > /tmp/journal.log
as root after a fresh boot, and then later attach /tmp/journal.log here.

Also please check if you have the package alsa-sof-firmware installed.
And the normal lscpci output is not that helpful as it's missing vendor and product IDs, please provide either the output of lspcidrake -v or lspci -nn
Otherwise please mention your mainboard or laptop make/model.

This is what I've found for your device "Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS" so far:

Hey, so I've managed to solve this :) . Found a solution by researching my device a bit more (Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS).

I put these lines

Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel single_cmd=1
options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1
options snd-hda-intel model=basic

Into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

My sound works now. Thank you :)
