lenovo ideapad 330 doesn't hibernate or suspend

Postby emel_punk » Nov 11th, '19, 15:57

EHLO people

I am having an issue. I installed mageia 7.1 and hibernation (and also sometimes suspend)doesn't work, it got stuck in a black screen before hibernation and never turn odd and well... to be honest I installed this after the Mageia 6 failed at that too for a long time.
Is it something with my Laptop? Never ever had an issue like this before. :o

Hi there, it got stuck at what point, at hibernating or at resuming? And is it currently in hibernation meaning it is off?

Seems for resuming you might need to use some kernel boot option, check https://forum.manjaro.org/t/suspend-not ... 0s/88396/4
Although others mention that it might still be an issue with newer 4.x kernels and above: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=138510

Any idea of this? I mean I thought the latest Mageia release would fix it.

Did you try some of the kernel boot options pointed out earlier?

We also have a laptop that hangs on hibernation since some time from mga6. We simply shut it off instead if we dont suspend it instead (which works) - It boots rather quickly anyway, and plasma restores most apps.

One thing you could try is to after it have been black a while, shut it off by holding power button, and see if it resumes on next start. (our dont) See if you can find something interesting in the journal (I could not...)

Well for my work it is very annoying to be shutting down because I have to move in a day from place to place, some times I forgot that battery is getting low and I when I return back front of the laptop, the screen is black or off, and I lose my work and applications data. One thing could kill a hard disk is to shutdown the laptop while it's writing into it so basically not a good solutions to simply forcing the laptop to shutdown with the button, while it is all I can do to keep working loosing again my work.

I hope next Mageia released will fix this since. Mean while I see what I can do.

Usually issues are not magically fixed if they haven't even been reported anywhere ...

Which of the suggested kernel boot options did you try yet ?

I added this to the options "ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0".

Can you post some log excerpts, either a complete journalctl -ab or only the APIC/ACPI parts from journalctl -ab|grep -iE "apic|acpi"

Also, what about the hints for the wireless driver e.g. from https://forum.manjaro.org/t/suspend-not ... 0s/88396/3 ?

A slight workaround would be to use a light desktop, like xfce, if you are not already. That shortens both boot and shutdown.

I have installed Windowmaker and indeed at least suspending is working OK. The problem is using Mate, GNOME, PLasma. Still hibernate doesn't work no matter what desktop I use.

emel_punk, did you find a solution for this? I have exactly the same problem with my ASUS laptop.
