Mageia and Claws Mail using bogofilter for spam [Closed]

Postby rodgoslin » Dec 4th, '19, 21:40

I use Claws mail for emails. I've used it for a long time, as a successor to Sylpheed. However, although the bogofilter plugin is effective in eliminating spam, it would be useful to be able to list all spam addresses, with a view to revising the list. Does anyone know a way to do this listing? I've tried opening the file (.bogofilter/wordlist.db), with sqlitebrowser, but this insists that the file is not an Sqlite 3 file.

Are you looking for something like https://bogofilter.sourceforge.io/faq.s ... y-database ?

Otherwise, you can use bogoutil -d database.db to list the contents of database to stdout.

Thanks. That did the trick, but unfortunately it doesn't get me any further on. In this case, during the summer, I opened an account with The Ordnance Survey Uk, but have been unable to use it since then, because, for some reason best known to OS UK, they assigned a different username and password to those I opted for in my application. I recently sorted this out, but whilst I've never received an email from OS UK, my mail client has decided to exclude these mails as spam. However, my Android phone, which does not filter, accepts email from OS UK. I had hoped that access to bogofilters database might have provided a clue. For the moment, the tide of spam seems to have largely dried up, so, again, for the moment, i've removed the bogofilter from Claws from Claws.

"

So if anyone knows how to whitelist in bogofilter, this could be marked closed.

Unfortunately, bogofilter does not work that way, with whitelists and such. It 's all rather opaque, but seems to rely on word choice and frequency, so relies largely on statistics rather than rationality. perhaps I should explain, that at the time, I was getting upwards of thirty or more spam messages a day, and going through all those every day to check whether of not they were spam, while bogofilter was doing a good job, was a chore. I might as well just gone through the listing and used common sense to determine their validity, It came to the same thing. so I unchecked the Claws option to set a spam directory, and the spam spontaneously disappeared. Rather like moving it to /dev/nul. But with the OS UK instance where it was ruled as spam with no previous experience, seems to indicate that bogofilter is unreliable without an overview which takes as much time as not using the bogofilter option. Hey, ho. I used to use the Claws filtering options, but they were awkward and not particularly reliable against the spam of the time. So I'll just have to rely on the 'net taking spam sites down. Which, at the moment seems to be working, most of the time.

I was rather mistaken about the 'net taking down spam sites. Mine is now back in full flood with about forty spam mails a day. Anything from porn, to fake jobs, to get rich quick, to pointless marketing. I can go back to bogofilter as before and risk losing the occasional real email, or create a spam directory and still have to comb through the dross to find the ocassional nugget. Or accept all mail, and then constantly have to comb out the dross. I think I'll go back to the old system of pitching out all bogofilter collects into the eternal darkness, and hope nothing really important comes through ( A highly unlikely event!). Thanks, all, for the interest
