preventing a firefox autostart [Solved]

Postby rodgoslin » Jul 19th, '19, 06:52

I used to have an account with Dropbox. the 'free' version. It had little use and I decided to cancel it, particularly when, out of the blue, on a re-boot, Firefox would start and display the login page to Dropbox. This was something that I would not have specifically requested. I've successfully separated from Dropbox, but the login screen still opened to niggle me. Any idea of where and how to disable this unwanted feature? I've no problems with Firefox (Waterfox, in actuality), opening windows which were open on logout, but the Dropbox login is definitely not one of those.

Try the following. Open a new page in firefox and enter:
Code: Select all
about:addons

Then select "Extensions" on the left side and remove every addon which is related to dropbox.

It's just a thought but in Preferences/General/Home what are New Windows and Tabs set to?

Sorry, that didn't work either. perhaps I hadn't worded the thing exactly. It's not a firefox (or Waterfox ) problem. The suggestions all refer to Firefox when opened. A reboot will re-open a Firefox session that was open on closing down the system. Which is fine. But the Dropbox page was not open when the machine was closed down

Ah, sorted it. When I cancelled my account with Dropbox, I thought I'd removed everything from the machine that referred to it. However, I'd overlooked an obscure application for Dropbox. When I located that and deleted it, the problem went away. It would appear that the application had got itself started on boot, and then opened an instance of Firefox. It must have been a recentish update, since it never happened before. That's the problem with this sort of thing. There's never any documentation as to what, when or how. Thanks for the help and attention.

welcome to the 21. century.

even Mozilla hardly ever bothers to document what the fox is doing in any version or when it stopped doing that. would be uncool to do so.

Only too true. The instructions for setting up my electronic kitchen scales are far more comprehensive than those for setting up my smart phone.
