(SOLVED) Returning User

Postby LeftistDirtBag » Jun 26th, '19, 15:48

i've been playing with linux on and off for about 20 years basically waiting till i thought it was ready for prime time. back in november thanks to mint cinnamon i got comfortable enough to completely drop win 10 and not look back. since then i have switched to kde neon, mainly because of the plasma desktop. under cinnamon after a few weeks i installed the plasma desktop cause i have always been partial to it. a couple of months later i decided to try out kde neon cause it's desktop is plasma. once i got use to it i deleted my cinnamon install cause i couldn't justify having mint cinnamon when i was only using the installed plasma desktop. now that said i recently ran across a review for open mandriva and was going to give the lx 4.0 a run, but with the limited support i've decided against it. instead i went looking of another os that i had previously used and liked and that's mageia with the plasma desktop cause it's not ubuntu based. never been a true fan of ubuntu. i've decided i want to give your 7.0 release candidate a run, but i would like to know if there is anything that might cause me any issues and if the rc will update to the final release once it's out. i' ve included my specs below? thanks

Kubuntu 19.04 Kernel 5.1.7 - KDE Neon Kernel 5.1.7,
nVidia 430 Driver, Asus 970 Gaming/Aura, AMD FX 6300, 16Gig DDR3,
Samsung 120Gig 850 EVO, AOC 29" Ultra Wide 2560x1080, nVidia 750Ti,
USB 3 Card, Drives 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB / 750Gig, 500Gig

There was a question in that?

It was totally unformatted so I stopped reading it after about the third sentence. If you want people to save you from reading tons of documentation, I suggest you make it easy by formatting your statements so that they are easy to read.

love the way you guys are on top of making sure topics are marked solved, but not on top of actually answering questions. shame since the os really looks promising.

Welcome LeftistDirtBag :)
It is very nice you introduced yourself. This is the correct forum section for that.

When you ask something we do like to help, but to help us help you, please:
1) Select a section suitable for the question, in this case "Testing : Alpha, Beta, RC and Cauldron"
2) Only write what is needed for us to read, in this case just a short sentence would do: "Will an RC install update to final when it is out?"

You could also have searched the forum.

That's a pretty blanket question, what particular answer did you expect?

And it's a release candidate, you're welcome to try it out if you're interested. The whole point is for people to check it out and see if there might still be some issues in there that only show up with certain hardware or configurations.

dude it's pretty easy to look at list of hardware specs and post any issue you know of with anything on that list. really not complicated.

re: hardware specs.

how can other Mageia users, whom do not have your particular arrangement of hardware, know if there will be issues with your hardware?
Active Forum users make up a very small subset of all registered forum users.(same as any fora).
And most registered forum users only make up those Mageia users whom have been unable to resolve a hardware/software issue with their own resources.

Of the 10s of thousands of pieces of hardware available to make up the multitude of computer systems available, the .ISO testers (real people with real hardware) only have access to a very limited amount of hardware.
some may only have one laptop.

your request would , in a very real sense, be almost impossible to answer, if you require another user, using your particular arrangement of hardware, to confirm "no issues".

Best guess, you will have no issues, how-ever, Do Not Quote Me on that!

Given the amount of Time you have dedicated to this thread, you could have downloaded, burnt to usb, and installed a real Mageia Linux system to Real Hardware, and found your own answer in less Time.

DUDE never hurts to ask and you know it. good example is my roommates mainboard very close in specs to mine but cannot install any version of linux on his system without it breaking. come to find out peeps had had the same issue with the motherbaord and ended up replacing it. it's usually one piece of hardware that cause any hardware issues that arise, so never hurts to ask just in case someone knows of an issue. i'm very well aware the chances of getting a answer isn't that great, but like i said does not hurt to ask.

now on a side note i got mageia installed exactly as i wanted and seems pretty stable and solid. installed a few things already. think i'm going to be enjoying it very much.
