[Solved] Could not start d-bus. Can you start qdbus

Postby DiBosco » Jun 19th, '19, 01:26

Folks,

Am on holiday and my laptop has stopped booting into KDE.

It drops me to the command line and tells me to run drakx11. That makes no difference.

If I run startx it tells me:

Could not start d-bus. Can you start qdbus.

I've Googled this on my phone and can see lots of examples, but few for Mageia and the ones that are, are to do with situations like this, more to do with fresh installs.

Can anyone help me please? I've tried reinstalling plasma and recovery mode.

Thanks

If you've found examples for some xorg.conf fixes (as it looks like this could be a video card issue), those should work in Mageia as well (drakx11 is just a front-end to manage xorg.conf), at least as a temporary measure. If you can, please post any error messages you see in the last lines of
Code: Select all
journalctl -b | tail -n 100

and of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file right after boot.

I've sorted it, but kind of don't know how.

I'd tried uromi --auto-update and it didn't do anything, but after trying all sorts of other urpme attempts of 32 bit programs after reading another thread, the --auto-update worked/ It changed 1500 or so packages.

Maybe this will helps someone else.

1500 packages!? Are you sure you didn't accidentally upgrade to Mageia 7?

Not sure I didn't at all. However, it's weird because it stopped part way through due to a bad package. When I rebooted the computer it booted into KDE, then I updated the remaining 700 odd packages.

One thing I never worked out was how you know which version of Mageia you're running.

In terminal:
Code: Select all
cat /etc/mageia-release
..........bird from paradise..........

Awesome, thanks.

FWIW I'm still on 6.
