Safety to remove orphanized packages

Postby adhefe » Apr 9th, '19, 02:56

After last updates today, among others, the package

xrandr-1.5.0-2.mga7

was said to be orphan.

This is a hybrid graphics computer using mageia-prime. Isn't it true that xrandr is required for mageia-prime? How can it be orphanized?

Is it safe to remove all orphanized packages?

Thanks

It may be that 1 (of many) packages that have xrandr as a dependency has been removed.
You can reboot and check to see if the dependency from another package gets linked, and so removes the orphan report.

given the size of the file xrandr, you can just leave it on the system.
