[SOLVED] Mageia 6 update notifications are looping

Postby dfgrbac » Jan 24th, '18, 19:46

When I get update notifications, I always proceed to install them.

Today I am getting strange actions by the mgaapplet. When I click on it, it tells me there are no updates or I have already installed them as shown in the attached screen shot. Then quitting the updater removes the blue download icon, which strangely then reappears. This action continues if clicked again.

Something is wrong here.

I've had this once before. I solved it by running from the command line, as root,

Code: Select all
urpmi --auto-update --auto-select

Not sure why, but it seems the GUI knew a package was to be updated, but wasn't seeing it.

This did not seem to help. Still getting the looping icon with no updates available.

Ok, maybe your mirror isn't synced properly.

Check https://mirrors.mageia.org/status

Mirrors seem to be a bit laggy of late :(

Hi dfgrbac,
I see the "updates available" showing on your taskbar.
You probably need to change your mgaapplet to point to another mirror.
Sometimes mirrors stop being mirrors (and looking at the status link mentioned above, mine stopped last month).
I just added another mirror manually the day before yesterday, and have received recent updates yesterday, including kernel 4.14.13

This is not the best choice of link to show you, but it helped a little in my case (to get unstuck). viewtopic.php?f=15&t=11988
The graphical mgaapplet has ways to add mirrors, but you may have to remove bad ones using the commandline.

...adding one more link in case this helps: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12218

Software repos can be changed via GUI if command line scares you too much.

Excellent HowTo! I was missing the "<CTRL> A" part to remove the old mirror so I could add a new mirror.

Thanks!

Hi dfgrbac,
To access this (to change mirrors), you need to use the "Mageia Control Center".

Thanks for the replies! I think it is fixed now.

As suggested, I checked the mirror site being used. It was one of those troublesome ones. So I switched to
http://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/
which shows all green on the status list. The Mageia Control Panel was used to make the change.

Thanks again.
