[Resolved] Error indications on starting

Postby cldjean » Oct 3rd, '17, 05:55

Hello

I'm a new user of Mageia 6 (Xfce desktop) and I'm very satisfied. I was on Ubuntu and Mint but le Wifi was unstable, I lost the device frequently and I had to reboot the system to get it again. On Mageia, no problem for the wifi.
My computer is an HP Compaq 6510b and I bought it in 2008.
When I start Mageia I have error indications on the black screen.
Here are they

Code: Select all
[   0.342113] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, Evaluating _PRS (28160031/pci_link-176

Can someone help me ?
Is there something to do ? Or just leave it.

Thank you

Of course, it was me.

One of the solution given to my problem was to update the BIOS. But it seems difficult to update BIOS when you are on Linux OS because on the HP site all the propositions need to launch Windows.
I wanted to have more advices on my problem if someone can help me.
The french moderator gave me the link for joigning the english forum.

Well, a general rule of thumb would be, if there is some error message in some log, but you don't have an actual issue then just leave it be.
Especially the kernel can be pretty verbose about a lot of things, but that doesn't mean there's actually an issue that needs to be fixed.

If your system boots and works normally, just leave it be.

must admit my PC has issues with failty memory mapper bios tables, and the error it kept launching bothered me.

so i found a solution, and it was not bios as asus would not provide a new bios.

and your laptop is now aproaching end of life as far as HP or UK law is concerned, ie 10 years is all most people provide docs, drivers, bios online for before they take it down.

would be worth sticking windows XP on it if a newer bios is available just to get it updated.

otherwise see if disabling options in the bios helps.

seems to suggest you dont need windows.

please take note that the latest version bricked this guys notebook, hence the thread, so it might be worth thinking if this is al worth it, theres no definite outcome that this will be fixed after all this.

Thank you doktor5000 and wintpe for your advices and your help.

For the moment, I will just keep the status as it is because I don't want to take a risky solution and loose the use of the computer.

The computer works very smartly with Mageia. I don't want to go further about this issue for the moment.

Thank you for all.

See you.
