[SOLVED] Xfce Lock screen buttons do not work.

Postby Grabo » Aug 5th, '17, 19:11

I use a Lenovo G580 i3 x86_64 Laptop. Did a Killdisc one pass clearance of the Hard disc and selected UEFI in the BIOS. Then installed the Mageia-6-x86_64-DVD.iso. from DVD. Did a custom disc partition and all went well, no surprises.

Had some breaks before adding media in MCC, so tried to just lock the screen. No reaction. OK, could be I am missing an update. Added media, but this persisted. OK, so there will be more updates as well. Through all of this, the buttons simply would not lock the screen.

Tested and checked all variations. All the other buttons (links) work.

Is there any way in which I can try to debug this?
Should I file a bug report?

What happens if you run xflock4 as regular user?
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!

Nothing. Copy pasted xflock4 into command line. This is the only result.

Code: Select all
[caldon@localhost ~]$ xflock4
[caldon@localhost ~]$

Could you check if you have the package light-locker installed?
As a user:
Code: Select all
rpm -qa light-locker

The classical iso only installs a minimal version of Xfce, it's possible that the package is missing.

Did this;
Code: Select all
[root@localhost ~]# urpmi light-locker

    http://ftp.sun.ac.za/ftp/pub/mirrors/mageia/distrib/6/x86_64/media/core/release/light-locker-1.7.0-3.mga6.x86_64.rpm
installing light-locker-1.7.0-3.mga6.x86_64.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms
Preparing...                     #############################################
      1/1: light-locker          #############################################
[root@localhost ~]#

OK, rebooting now. Will tell. Ta.

Much obliged. In computers space is always at a premium. Electronic triage usually very difficult. I am making a note of it for future installations though. Habit from Windows.

Congratulations to the company Mageia for a very slick Mageia 6 distro. Huge improvements all over the place. And I did not even think of many of them! Very nice surprise indeed.

There's no company behind Mageia, all is done by volunteers. See https://www.mageia.org/contribute/
