I can't copy my 25 GB single-sided Blu-ray discs with K3b

Postby lloyd » Aug 24th, '16, 16:28

I can't make copies of my (I made them myself so they are not copy protected) Blu-ray data discs. Every time I try, I get an error saying "unsupported media type." Is this an actual K3b problem or a DVD+RW problem or is it just my particular Blu-ray drive? (it will let me copy commercial (i.e., movies) discs. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

Running Mageia 5 64 bit with all the latest updates, including multimedia updates.

Can you at least create an image of the bluray disc using k3b? And what settings do you use in k3b to create a copy?
Also, you're asking about bluray, but then also ask if this would be a problem with DVD+RW ... is this about some rewritable bluray?

Regular DVDs work just fine. I can't create an image file from the BD using K3B. It doesn't read it. But Dolphin shows all the files as being there. It's like the disc doesn't successfully close. All other types of discs work fine. I just use the "copy medium" feature in K3B. These are single use Blu-ray discs (not re-writable)

You should maybe ask in KDE forum https://forum.kde.org/ or report it in KDE bugzilla.

Apart from k3b, can you use any other tool, like brasero or so ?

Brasero can't even find the disc, let alone read it. But both K3B AND Brasero had no problem reading a Blu-ray movie (I used Star Trek as a test)

How did you create those blurays in the first place?

And please next time do not use fullquotes, but only use the Reply function. Greatly improves clarity and reading flow ;)

No programs actually work to copy these discs. K3B is the only program that can even find the disc. I have found a temporary workaround. Although it's a bit more complicated, using genisoimage from the command line works and creates the ISO image just fine. Then I use K3B to burn the image.
