Missing packages in beta 1

Postby bertaerts » Apr 6th, '11, 12:23

I just looked at ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de in /pub/Mirrors/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/ and did not find following packages [available in Mandriva]
beid [2010.1/main]
rosegarden [2010.1/contrib]
nted [2010.1/contrib]

Are there any plans to get the number of packages up to the level of Mandriva?

You can open package requests on bugzilla for missing packages that you want. My experience is that the response from the packagers to such requests is very fast.

The number of packages is directly related to the number of packagers. Mageia wants more packagers. If you think you can help, please do.

I couldn't find K9copy or Acidrip - should I file a bug or does it require adding another repository?

k9copy is in the tainted repo. If you set up the online repos through MCC, then you may just have to enable it.

I don't see acidrip in the repo's. You should make a bug report asking for it.

I appreciate authors to add krusader to the mageia packages. I installed but I cannot switch on as root. I found kdesu, but mageia does not want me as root. Thank you.

krusader is in the on-line core repo.

Edit: Sorry, I just saw your bug report - I misunderstood what you were saying here.

You need to open a package request bug report:

Thank you for gnome-commander. I have problems with krusader, I am not able to switch on it as root. I tried to setup kdesu but without success.

Have you tried launching it from a terminal/konsole:
Code: Select all
su -l
krusader

FWIW, on my (i586) box, Krusader launches as root, both from the menu entry and by entering kdesu krusader in krunner.

The daft rules in this form don't let me edit my earlier posts, so this is my third reply to your post.

I now understand what you are saying. (I'm a bit slow these days). It is not possible to launch a root krusader from within krusader running as user. I don't know if that can be fixed. (I don't normally use KDE and so don't keep up with current issues). I see that you have opened a bug report about this. It's best to wait for the dev's to respond to that.

Considering that Mageia is a non-commercial fork replacement for Mandriva and Mandriva has always been very strong in offering many different Window Managers and Desktop Environments, I would like to request that Mageia include the current release of Xfce, Version 4.8, released in January, and the patches in 4.8.1 that have been provided as maintenance updates.

Also, I attempted to install Seamonkey 2.0.13, but was surprised to find a download of Iceape 2.0.13 (did that come from Debian?) but it did not work at all on my system. I would like to see a wide variety of Web browsers, Text Editors, and graphical display environments for Mageia if it is going to replace Mandriva for me, because one of the things I greatly appreciated about Mandriva was the ability to use the Cooker to find and test out the latest and greatest stuff.

What I have seen so far in Mageia is overall package quality quite a bit better than Mandriva 2011 Beta 1, but there are a lot of software packages not yet included in Mageia. Please make a working Seamonkey a priority and a current release of Xfce a priority; these are important to me, thanks!

Hey, after posting this note and noticing the bugzilla forum, I posted a note to Bugzilla and the QA team set me straight. Apparently my repository did not get properly initialized after the initial installation. I came back today, initialized the repositories, and even adjusted them to get the stuff I wanted, then ran a very nice, smooth upgrade.

The take aways from this were multiple:

1. Iceape and Xfce -do- exist in the repositories, and after refreshing again, they all installed.
2. The Bugzilla response is excellent. Not only did the QA team set me straight, they did so quickly and effectively.

The bottom line is that I have all of this software installed and more, and the even better news is that it all works, and very well at that! I believe that we are going to have a REALLY GOOD release here! Keep it up! :-)
