GeForce FX-5500 or KDE support is broken

Postby rosti » Feb 13th, '16, 23:11

Hi there,

I've just installed the Mageia 5 (using boot-nonfree.iso net install) on my old computer with GeForce FX-5500 video card. After login the screen look scrambled as shown in the following picture

If I switch between X, console and X again the screen is ok for 1-2 seconds and then it's scrambled again. Same problem in the safe mode too. The graphical login screen itself is ok.

Is it a known bug? Is it KDE only? How could it be fixed?

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log
lspcidrake -v | grep VGA
rpm -qa|sort|grep nvidia

I've made a bug report in Bugzilla:

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17761

I attached a tgz archive with logs asked by Marja van Waes. I think they include everything you asked as well.

Not sure why you opened a bugreport ... that won't accelerate the troubleshooting.

Because this topic was waiting for an approval when I opened it and because this is indeed a bug. Also maintainers of other Linux or other open-source projects are usualy asking me to make a bug report. So I consider this as a common practice.
