[SOLVED] Can't install Mageia5 (black screen ati cards)

Postby telliev » Jul 26th, '15, 09:36

After booting the live dvd of Mga5 it loads the legacy ati driver which makes my screen black. Is there any way to load the ati's free driver before booting the live dvd? Thank's in advance.

After a simple query in our own forum, following came up, amongst others.

Thanks for the reply but this does not help. In the live dvd there is no option to chose a video driver. It only works with the full installation media.

It might help if you at least tell us what live DVD you want to use, and a little about the specs of your box.
Especially what graphics adapter does it use?

I'm using Mageia 5 live dvd x86_64, my video card is ATI HD 5470. I know that problem. I have it when using the proprietary drivers from ati. When using these ones from xorg everything runs well but this live dvd is using the proprietary drivers which are incompatible with my video card. I just want to know how to switch on xorg ati driver. Thanks ;)

Try the kernel option xdriver=ati or maybe xdriver=vesa.
If that alone doesn't help you might need to supress loading fglrx by
Code: Select all
rdblacklist=fglrx xdriver=ati
