Hi,

I have fedora but I want to move to mageia. Can I install mageia replacing fedora without formatting my data on /home. THanks.

Yes you can, either choose use existing partitions or choose custom partitioning and select your /home partition as /home: http://doc.mageia.org/installer/5/en/co ... Disks.html
/home is not marked for formatting by default: http://doc.mageia.org/installer/5/en/co ... tions.html

For an installation, you may want to wait a few days until Mageia 5 final is released.

Separate partition with all my stuff on it. I will wait until version 5 then try a live xfce install.

FWIW, there is no XFCE live media, only live media for GNOME and KDE as we cannot provide one for each desktop we support, that would be just too much.

I don't know if that is still valid but when i tried fedora (fedora 11 or so) on my desktop machine and then reinstalled Mandriva; i hit that my home partition files/folders permissions were messed up by selinux. You may want to check if selinux is still doing that. My 2 cents...

That sounds interesting and worrying. How would I verify that. I have too much stuff in my /home partition that I cannot lose. Thanks

Check ls -laZ ~ and check which security contexts you see. Although it should not matter, as we don't have support for SELinux enabled and hence they should be ignored.
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fed ... #id3009248
Contexts and ACLs can also easily be removed: http://superuser.com/a/233410/365864 and http://www.nisrv.com/blogs/mikeb/disabl ... exts-files
Maybe you had messed up with ACL's ?
