[Solved] Missed something during upgrade.

Postby Citroen » Apr 20th, '15, 19:56

Hi,

I upgraded M4 to M5, a bit early I know, but, during the installation (in the terminal) I noticed a few lines that may have been important, but they disappeared too quickly.
I had to change a couple of files, I think, because Thunar shows mixed icons and FF has a Gnome look (I'm using xfce).

Could anyone tell me what I'd have to change?

M5 is quite stable, just remember when Mga5 is released to reset your online repositories, otherwise you will still be in Cauldron Repos.

please attempt again an upgrade to Mga5.
sometimes some files are missed during an upgrade.

Hi benmc,

I ran this: 'urpmi --replacefiles --auto-update --auto' three times, but the second and third time nothing new happened, no further updates.

The icons still remain unchanged, look, mixed emotions. :)

hello Citroen,

please report this as a bug,
I have performed the upgrade from Mga4 i586 kde to Mga5b3 i586 kde without issue, so I will also perform the upgrade you have done and if I have the same result will add to your bug report.
Before you upgraded, in your original install, had you changed DE, say, originally installed Mate, and then later changed to XFCE?
Which version of Mageia do you have; i586 or x86?

regards

Hi,

Initially I had LXDE installed, and changed it to XFCE afterwards, so this may be the culprit?
As I've said earlier, I got a message that told me to change a folder into another, but I can't recall what to do, this may be the reason too.

Where can I report this bug if it is one?

And I have i568 installed.

Cheers, Citroen.

bugs are reported here : https://bugs.mageia.org/

you should be able to use your login that you use for this forum.

please give all the info you have just posted in this forum, and any thing else you would consider relevant.

I will set up a Mga4 i586 with LXDE and then install XFCE and then perform the upgrade.
If I have the same result, I will add to your bug report,
If not I will post here

Okay, thanks, I already found it. ;)

I've never reported a bug before so it's a bit of a search where to put what.

First of all I don't know which component to pick, backports, installer, etc, none of these suits my issue.
And source RPM, URL? Dunno.

Maybe I'll wait for your experience with an upgrade?

(BTW, changing back to lxde is a no go, lxde seems to be broken.)

Regards.

Hello Citroen,

Fyi:
just about to start the upgrade.
started with a clean install of Mga4 LXDE + updated to latest.
installed : task-XFCE, task-XFCE-minimal, task-XFCE-plugins.
logout, change desktop to LXDE and login. check for updates - none. check thunar file displays - correct. looking good so far.

let you know,

All well?
I've changed the name of some folders and then they looked okay.
Thunar only shows pictograms if I pick that option, otherwise it turns back to the simple layout.

But there are more issues, sound for instance comes and go, pulseaudio is sometimes dead and revives after a reboot, some icones on the panel sometimes disappear or there are 2 sound icons..

hopefully I am using the same method you have used

removed media, then used "urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist 'http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.5.i586.list' "
and am now waiting for "urpmi --replacefiles --auto-update --auto " to complete.
slow internet so it may be this time tomorrow when it finishes the upgrade.

let you know

First I did: urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist 'http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.5.$ARCH.list'
And then: urpmi --replacefiles --auto-update --auto

The only difference is that I have $ARCH where you have i586..

And it took a couple of hours, indeed. ;)

Hello Citroen

bug has been reported for this : https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15763

please add to it as a confirmation.
doing so will add you to the mailing list for the bug and you will be able to follow progress on the bug.
you may be required to add additional information.

Lxde for me is still available if I logout, change desktop and login.
There is some twinning of applications in both application launchers- LXDE and XFCE, eg, 2 instances of the screen capture applet.

unfortunately, I could not replicate exactly your final result, probably as my upgrade was from a "virgin" install.

regards

Hello Citroen

If you use the bug 15763 report for the mixed icons as a template, as the basic info is the same, you can create your own bug reports for your pulse audio, broken LXDE and other problems.
please make a new report for each problem.
the report doesn't have to be perfect, and if further info is required, those looking into fixing the bug will ask for it.

regards
