Solved New install problems

Postby bertv » Apr 13th, '15, 02:25

Hello
It took some time to install. The first time it did not complete the instalation properly, but after some tries I managed to get it installed. However after instalation it only goes to the command prompt. I need to put in the password and then startx before I can get the desktop up.
I have two monitors on this system, and I set them up as required so that I can use both press apply and it works fine.
I have ethernet cable plugged in and I ned to tell it to connect.
Both of the above work fine until a reboot and I will have to do the same thing again, no settings seem to be saved.
When inserting a USB key nothing seeems to happen and I can't find it on the file system.
I do like some of the features tha is in this linux system, but I would like to get it working properly.
Is there anyone who can help to get this set up properly.

Hello Bertv, and welcome to Mageia.

The problem you are describing is usually because the graphics card is not correctly set up.
can you supply info on your graphics card,
can you try removing / disconnecting 1 monitor and seeing if having only 1 monitor on the system allows a correct reboot.
You should be able to set up your graphics card / driver / monitor from Mageia Control Centre, hardware tab.

regarding the usb, which Mageia release are you using, and which desktop are you using?

regards

Benmc

Hello Benmc
Thanks for the reply.
Booted up using one monitor HDMI but the same problem.
When I boot up it comes back with "Welcome to emergency mode. After logging in type Journalctl -xb to view system logs.
I did that and than is starts listing lines and lines of information it when up to about 300 lines and then I stoped it.
The garphics is from the mother board an ASUS H81M-Plus no separate card and I have KTE desktop
It says updates are available, but when I press the update button it also come back with some errors,. I have not coppied the deatils.

Regards

have you set the graphics driver up with Mageia Control Centre?.
2nd tab - hardware.

If you are using the " default " driver for your card, try the vesa or nouveau driver and see if that improves the bootup.
you can test that the driver works before rebooting

I agree with above, it sounds like a graphics fault: I'd sort that, then try the update :)

Perhaps rather than starting x, try running the config from the terminal (I can't recall the command ATM, drakx?).

I have an Asrock H81M, with only the APU and I had no trouble thankfully. Dont give up, youll get it.

Hello all Thanks for the replies.
I installed it on an other drive and it installed properly, so something must have gone amiss in the first install. I have not yet done much with it, but hope to look at it again in a few days
Thanks again.
