[SOLVED] Can't boot Mageia 4.1 from live DVD

Postby traceylowndes » Nov 2nd, '14, 00:27

I tried to boot Mageia 4.1 from a live DVD, but the boot failed after the boot up messages.

The live DVD I was trying to boot is the 64-bit KDE version, and my laptop Is a Windows 7 one with Nvidia Optimus.

I bought the live DVD from eBay, after having problems with a live USB I'd created myself (but that's another post!)

Thanks in advance.

I noticed some problems too.

Live CD boots to black screen on my test laptop. This laptop runs with Windows and Linux Mint 17 just fine.(plus some Puppy linux too) Also have run many of the major distros live CD/DVD on this machine, which is nothing fancy, just core solo with 1GB ram.

I did boot the same Mageia live CD successfully on a desktop core duo with 2GB ram. Maybe it is the ram limitation? Only system requirements I found were 2011 and said 512mb minimum 2gb recommended. This Mageia live cd image is finicky in other ways too.

As a general hint and golden rule: Please only one problem per thread ;)
Your issue sounds different then that from the OP.

What are you referring to as "boot up messages" ? You do get a Mageia boot menu, and select the Mageia entry there, then it will boot further, showing the Mageia bootsplash?
Can you press Esc button to see where it stops?

And more general question: Did you check the md5sum of your download?

For your nvidia optimus graphics, you should have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Err ... e_CD.2FDVD especially the second and last bullet point.

Sorry, did not intend to hijack thread. Just was sharing experience on a similar issue when I saw 0 replies to this one.

Anyway, I was able to install successfully on my laptop with the dual arch DVD install image. Just something about this live CD doesn't work well: black screen on two laptops, partial desktop then hangs on two other systems, but worked OK on two others. All worked with Ubuntu live or similar.

OK, I'm outta this thread.

Well, I used the default option of splash=quiet, but once I pressed Esc by accident, and the splash messages came up.

As I said in my original post, I bought the DVD from Ebay, so no checksum!

I did look at that wiki page, but I decided to post on this forum to get some other ideas!

You don't mention at which point it stops.

Well I tried the DVD again tonight.

I tried, from the wiki:

try [ Alt + Ctrl + 2x BS ]

and it worked! I managed to get into the Mageia desktop!

Thank you to all for your answers!
