[SOLVED] Grub2 no files

Postby laidlaws » Sep 25th, '14, 11:28

When I install the grub2 package and configure it, the folder /boot/grub2 is virtually empty. There is a grub.cfg, but no core.img or the other files that go with it. As a result, core.img cannot be found. I am calling grub2 from Legacy Grub as per README.Mageia, and I get sent back to Legacy's menu.lst.

Looking at the contents of the RPMs, release 58 puts the files in /boot/grub2, but the upgrade release 59, puts them in /usr/lib. If that is correct, I need to change my bootloader command, but it does seem odd.

There's some additional pointers (e.g. to the mga-specific README) in https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Errata#Grub2

All the examples there have core.img in /boot/grub2/i386-PC/core.img or /boot/grub2/i386-pc/core.img , not in /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/ . Such a drastic change seems inappropriate for a minor version number. It seems more like an error in putting the 59 RPM together. A symlink to /boot/grub2 should get it working.

"A symlink to /boot/grub2 should get it working."

No, it won't, because there is no core.img in that directory. Better to roll back to 58.

Sorry I missed your request

I golt it to install correctly vy a command-line from the very beginning. The method in the wiki should work, but doesn't seem to any more.
