SOLVED ?? Flash player for Chromium

Postby CutRightSharpening » May 17th, '14, 19:32

What is the correct Flash player for Chromium?

My older friends are not going to be able to watch Hero Cat videos without it.

Thanks

I put myself in the shoes of an 78 year old widow. Her 25" analog TV is connected to an external antenna by an HD-Analog converter. Her phone isn't even a "feature" phone. She gets internet through dial-up. So I don't do terminal stuff.

What version of Mageia and Chromium do you use currently, and what software media do you have configured? Best show the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep -e chrom -e flash
urpmq --list-media active

Mageia 4 Fresh install from a USD created 3 days ago from the ISO downloaded 3 days ago as a dual boot and updated 2 hours ago.
Set to Cinnamon Desktop
Chromium 34.0.1847.132 Mageia.org 4 (265804)

I'm using chromium-stable and it seems to use the installed flash player. Please have a look at our MAQeia for flash player plugin: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=880

OK, Lets ask this a different way.
If I download Chromium from the Mageia applications list found on the welcom page, then attempt to watch a YouTube video and I get the message with link that takes me to an Adobe Page that offers me 4 choices. None of them seem to be anything in the page suggested.

Of those offered, which is the right one or is there some other flash player someplace in Mageia that I need to activate.

Don't use any of them, install the flash player from Mageia repositories:

Ok,
Looks like I need this. >> flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.275

I have both non-free and tainted enabled.

Did a search in the software manager and got no results.

The flash-player-plugin doesn't have a Graphical User Interface and the default in software manager is to only show packages with GUI.
If you change the upper left box from "Packages with GUI" to "All" it will be found.

flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.275 is the minimum version you need,
Mageia4 shipped with a newer version, flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.335

So just search for flash-player-plugin .

OK,
That search turned up

Adobe Flashplayer for x86_64 / 64bit flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.359

and flash-player-plugin-KDE 11.2.202.359

Both list as being installed and Chromium no longer tells me I need to download and install the plugin,,, but You Tube videos won't play and I don't get the control bar along the bottom.
Video plays in every other place I have checked. Just not You Tube..

So,, what now??

I'm using Cauldron so can't test with Mageia4 but Youtube videos in Chromium open and run for me using HTML5 Player not flash-player.

Do you have lbkhtml5 or lib64khtml5 installed?

lbkhtml5 does not show up installed or uninstalled.

BUT libkhtml5 came up uninstalled. Now installed.. and You Tube still doesn't work.

lib64khtml5 lists as installed. Ver 4.11.4 x86_64

Humnnn.. An interesting side note: I am also not able to get any of my own videos here >>> https://drive.google.com/?usp=chrome_ap ... 2R3OTJaRlU to play unless I select "OPEN". They will play in the opened window but not in the direct open view.

Also.. I don't see the plug-ins I have downloaded in the plug-ins list.=, but this is in the list >>
Adobe Flash Player - Version: 11.2 r202
Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

In the process of digging around trying to fix my DVD won't play problem I found that the Preference Settings application for Adobe Flash Player show up in the TOOLS menu.

Solved?? Re: Flash player for Chromium

Postby CutRightSharpening » May 19th, '14, 14:54

Got up this morning and turned on the Gateway LT3120u and let it boot into Mageia 4 Cinnamon then started Chromium.
Got a message saying that the "Adobe Flash Player Extension" had been "Automatically Removed".
Opened You Tube since that was the site where I was NOT able to get online vedio to play and now it plays.
Checked C-SPAN, Fox, CNN and CBS and all of them also work.

I have marked this as SOLVED?? because I don't understand how it got solved.
