X graphical server and Intel conflict?

X graphical server and Intel conflict?

Postby cheese » Apr 23rd, '14, 12:33

I have an Acer Aspire One notebook with Intel Atom. I tried to match my X server with the video card (Xorg Intel via Mageia Control Center), but upon restart, Mageia hangs upon loading the graphical server. How can I solve the problem without a reinstall?

Use failsafe entry in boot menu, then run
Code: Select all
drakx11
and select another driver, like vesa

I don't have a failsafe entry. How do I opt for failsafe in command-line mode (c) in GRUB 2?

I tried to boot into failsafe (or recovery) mode by editing the boot commands of a Mageia boot entry and replacing the ro part to single. It seems to work... but it's unusable thanks to the black screen bug. Normally, a suspend resolves the problem and brings the screen output back, but I can't suspend in recovery mode for some reason. So, I need advice on resolving the hang problem using a Mageia LiveDVD or installation DVD.

For grub2 I think you need to hold Shift to get the menu, but not sure.

I need help in resetting the xorg friver from intel to vesa via the LiveCD. I can't boot to failsafe because my Acer laptop greets me with the blackout bug.

I managed to bypass the blackout bug and boot into recovery mode and reset the driver to esa, but sadly, it would boot into command-line mode. I think the problem is caused by corrupt xfs, but I can't unmount my root partition. Ctrl+D instead of root login doesn't work. So I need something to force xfs_repair or to start it upon booting. If any of these fail, I'll repair the FS using an Arch Linux LiveUSB.

It doesn't matter as I had to reinstall the system.
