[It works now] VLC crashes when playing DVD's

Postby Silver22 » Feb 2nd, '14, 04:59

I thought I had this solved but the problem remains.

I've had three different DVD's from Netflix that would not play.
SMPlayer would not play them and VLC crashed every time.
I changed to another installation of Mageia 3 and still no play.
Tried an installation of PCLinuxOS 64 and they still won't play.
Changed computers to one with PCLinuxOS 12 with the same result.

I tried to read the log for the crashed VLC player but had no success.

I'm thinking there is a missing codec or else the three DVDs really were defective.

The movies were Surrogates (2009), a replacement of it, and Oz The Great and Powerful (2013)

Any help will be trememdously appreciated.

I tried following the instructions found here:
https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6590

VLC and SMPlayer both crash everytime I try to play a DVD.

The codecs seem to be present. lib64dvdcss2 and lib64dvdread4.

Which instructions did you follow there, and why? vlc didn't crash there, your issue is totally different, probably related to some newer copy protection.
Can probably not be solved, as libdvdcss is only for old CSS protection, but not for the newer ones on recent (last 5 years or so) DVDs.
