[SOLVED] Using 'make' D:

Postby ThePonola » Jun 29th, '11, 20:24

Hi there! I just finished installing Mageia! :3

I hate for my first post on the forums to be a cry for help, but I have looked over something that shouldn't have when testing the Live CD. There's no make command. D:
It's essential because my WiFi device relies on a driver that I downloaded from the manufacturer. However, the driver comes as a .zip file, and in Linux, it must installed using the make command after decompression.
The driver is for the RaLink 5390 device, in my Compaq Presario CQ56.

I sure would appreciate a push into the right direction. Thank you!

The Live CD is a way to demonstrate Mageia, to evaluate the system and to check if all hardware of a specific machine is recognized. There's no devel equipment available, it would go beyond the space limitations of a CD.

Ah yes, but you see, even after installing it to the hard disk, the konsole still says "make: command not found"
But I suppose there must be a way to install it, yes? (I tried searching the package manager, I don't seem to retrieve any results for it.)

Very welcome to the Mageia-forum ThePonola!!!!

Be sure when installing packages through MCC, that search-filters (upper left) are selected for "All".

Thank you!
I did that, and got a hit for a package called "makedev".
Close, but according to the description, it's not what I'm looking for. Thanks for the tip though.

Do you have all the necessary repositories configured?

Some interesting explanation concerning repositories is written by our dear member maxci:
