How to install a minimal Mageia with XFCE?

Is it possible to install a minimal Mageia system with XFCE? I imagine I should use the net install CD and then urpmi task-xfce. Is it right?

Depends but basically yes. I'd use the dualarch CD and not net install, but either way make sure that in individual package selection
the option "do not install suggests" (analogous to the urpmi option --no-suggests) is enabled.

Also, what is your definition of "minimal"? Minimal disk space, minimal memory footprint ... ?

By minimal I mean in applications.

This is a big reason I picked Mageia KDE edition for my main desktop. It doesn't include everything I don't need. I don't like cluttered menus. Mageia KDE comes with only useful applications unlike other KDE distros.

I have a less powerful machine, I want to try Mageia+LXDE and install the individual applications I might need.

As the Doktor suggested.
The Dual CD = LXDE Desktop and not much else.

If you want a minimal installation you may want to consider only using a window manager, not a complete desktop environment.
On a related note, LXDE will probably soon vanish, as they have merged with razor-qt.

Maybe try E17, razor-qt or window managers like fluxbox, openbox ...
