I see no direct way to remove/delete the Trash icon but it can be moved to another directory, once moved it can be deleted if you're sure you don't want it.

No I wasn't joking

I don't remember seeing an X. When I right clicked on the other icons on the Desktop, the menu had a delete or remove option. When I clicked on "Trash" there was no such menu item.

I eventually got rid of it by opening the Desktop in Dolphin and deleting from there.

hi

maybe right-click anywhere on the desktop, unlock widgets, choose "configure search and launch ", change the layout to any of the options that you prefer and apply.

not really deleteing it but hiding it.

cheers

Desktop icons are not widgets and can be moved to the Trash bin without unlocking widgets through a right click menu.

The Trash bin however does not have a menu entry to move it to the Trash bin for obvious reason.

But the trash bin itself is a regular plasmoid, so if it's unlocked, when you do a mouseover over the plasmoid you get the regular plasmoid options,
also the "x" should be there. Not from the context menu, but on mouseover, that is important difference!
Check e.g. Image Do you see the X on the bar next to the plasmoid itself?
It should also be removable by calling the Add plasmoids dialog and click the - icon on the Trash plasmoid.

But i can't really reproduce, because it's one of the first things removed from the desktop, and i'm currently running razorqt, no KDE :)

It's not as easy. Removing desktop-icons depends on how your desktop is configured. Is it folderview or is it simple workplace? Behviour of icons depends on this question.
for windows problems reboot; for linux problems be root

As Trash is a plasmoid, those don't behave differently. Or that would be new to me (could be, as i'm only using folderview)

Weird, when i came back from razor-qt, i've also had a trash icon on the desktop, which was no plasmoid.
But just selecting it and pressing Shift-Delete - away it went ;)
If you have "Delete" context menu in dolphin configuration enabled, then you can also use that ...

I removed the trash icon on the desktop by adding the widget on the taskbar and dragging it there.
