Open up two terminals. On the first, start tailf /var/log/messages as root and let it run.
On the second, do your modprobe xc5000. Then look at the first terminal, which
messages got appended after you loaded the xc5000 module. If it doesn't appear
in there, then it should at least appear in dmesg output.
