Issues after upgrade from Mageia 2 to Mageia 3

Postby icobgr » May 30th, '13, 21:48

Hi,
I have upgrade my Mageia 2 to Mageia 3 but I have some very unpleasent issues.
1. I can't add medium location manually. It always said that could not connect. in "Configure media sources for install and update" when I press "Add" button it adds $mirrors medias for M2. If I try from menu File > Add a custom medium it said that could not load configuration. Only works command: urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list
But baackports mediums are not selected. Also when I try command urpmi --auto-update it said:
mirror list not found
Could not find a mirror from mirrorlist http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list

So I have to install updates manually from "Install & Remove Software" selected from combo box "All update"
Also in "Configure media sources for install and update" when I select from menu Fail -> Update and select all mediums it said again:
Unable to update medium; it will be automatically disabled.
Errors:
mirror list not found
Could not find a mirror from mirrorlist http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list

2, Second problem is with my Nividia video card. After upgrade and reboot in xorg.conf file "nvidia" driver was replaced with "nouveau". I have run XFDrake to change video driver. Selected GeForce 8100 to GeForce 360 (lshw prints that mi card is: product: G92 [GeForce 9600 GSO]) and then I pressed "Test" buton I got error: "An error occured: no screens found"
in Xorg.9.log file it say: Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)
in syslog I found this:
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: The NVIDIA probe routine was not called for 1 device(s).
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: This can occur when a driver such as nouveau, rivafb,
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: nvidiafb, or rivatv was loaded and obtained ownership of
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: the NVIDIA device(s).
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: Try unloading the conflicting kernel module (and/or
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: reconfigure your kernel without the conflicting
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: driver(s)), then try loading the NVIDIA kernel module
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: again.
May 30 22:43:33 icobgr kernel: NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter probed!

So, any help for those two issue will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Hristo

The missing mirros thing might have been a temporary problem accessing the servers. They appeared to be intermittently inaccessible yesterday.

I have upgraded to M3 on next day it was anounced. From when I check almost every day and this problem exists. It is not with connection. Something is wron with urpmi configuration and I don't know what. It is not normal to add M2 mirrors mediums when I press Add button.

Please only one problem per thread, create a separate thread for your question about nvidia/nouveau.

For this one, please show the output of the following:
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active
urpmq --list-url

Your mirror location is probably having some problems.
Change to another location from
http://mirrors.mageia.org/distrib
Careful to choose Mageia 3 and the right i586 or x86_64
{copy this url to the <mirror_url> below}

Code: Select all
urpmi.removemedia -a
urpmi.addmedia --distrib <mirror_url>
urpmi --auto-update

Then go to mcc and include whatever repo (tainted, etc) you need and update again.
Good luck

How you see I cannot add distribution.

Only works: urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list

So this works now? Good.
as for
urpmi.addmedia --distrib <url>

try another one, the url you used
http://mageia.mirror.dkm.cz/pub/mageia/distrib/3/x86_64
may have a problem then.

see
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_3_rc# ... _.28CLI.29

both urpmi.addmedia --distrib <url> and urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list works.
The former allows you to select the location you want.

i also see this issue with 2 often when i try to use the mcc add repos control pannel. ie no media.cfg file found

i always get by with the following command instead.

urpmi.addmedia --distrib http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mage ... /2/x86_64/

for mga2 that is.

i do wonder if its firewalls blocking rsync , as i usualy get this on my work non corperate network, where we are given some free access but some restrictions.

Well, you may want to take a look at http://mirrors.mageia.org/ - if there are some protocols marked red in the rightmost column, that means that the mirror has some problems with that protocol.

You may also want to specify --wget as downloader if curl is not working. Personally i wouldn't use rsync as downloader.

I have wrote that adding URL as distribution DOES NOt work. Only works adding mirrorlist.
Also even that I have added mirror list URL http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list after that if I try "urpmi --auto-update" this does NOT work:

[root@icobgr bin]# urpmi --auto-update
mirror list not found
Could not find a mirror from mirrorlist http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list

So how much URLs did you try? Did you try to specify a different downloader as proposed?

I dodn't count. Yes, I have tried with wget and aria2 as well but it is the same.
It is not normal when I press Add button in COnfuguration meduims to add mirror list for Mageia 2 not for Mageia 3.

Well, it's also not normal that you can't add repositories from any mirror, even when trying all downloaders.

It might help if you won't reply to threads which are dead since several years, last post before yours is from 3 years ago. Please open a separate thread for your issue, and provide the basic details like which Mageia release you're using, and how exactly you tried to add the repos.
