[SOLVED] Only a single DNS server saved.

[SOLVED] Only a single DNS server saved.

Postby elija » Oct 31st, '12, 22:08

I have configured my ethernet to use a static IP and pointed the DNS to my router. This works fine with no drama, although DNS lookups can take a while. I installed dnsmasq and configured it to listen on 127.0.0.1. Using the network center I configured the first DNS to 127.0.0.1 and the second to my router. Only 127.0.0.1 was saved to /etc/resolv.conf. How do I get the network center to save both DNS servers?

You can re-configure the interface via MCC -> Network & Internet -> Set up a new network interface (LAN, ISDN, ADSL, ...)
Just select the interface, skip through the dialogs but specify both DNS servers. Does that help?
Otherwise you can point directly to the DNS servers of your ISP, or maybe use google's DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

No change. I only get one nameserver in the resolv.conf file.

I miss the old days where things were easy and all you had to do was edit a file and stuff worked

Try disabling the resolv.conf service and set the DNS again in mcc.

That's got it. Thanks. I'm going to suggest that's a bug...

Now to find where I can report it
