CD/DVD Catalog program

Postby pchristy » Sep 27th, '12, 17:01

For a number of years I've been using Gwhere <http://www.gwhere.org> to catalog my cds and dvds. Its very simple, and does exactly what I want.

Unfortunately, it won't compile on Mageia 2 due to an unsatisfied dependency (GTK+ >= 1.2). The program itself seems to have been abandoned - it hasn't been updated in years - which is a shame, as it is so useful.

So, I have two questions:

1) Is there a way of getting GTK+1.2 for Mageia 2 x86_64 (and yes, I know its obsolete), or is there a compatibility layer that will allow older software to use GTK+2 instead?
2) Is there any other simple cataloging software out there? All the stuff I've found has so many bells and whistles on it that they get in the way of its prime purpose, and make it useless for me!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Is there software that I like, which is the Tellico. It has a catalog template of music (CDs, DVDs, Videos etc.)

Tellico makes it easy to track your books, videos, music, even your wine and anything else. A simple and intuitive interface shows cover images, groupings, and any detail you want

About TELLICO - Tellico is a KDE application for organizing your collections. It provides default templates for books, bibliographies, videos, music, video games, coins, stamps, trading cards, comic books, and wines.

There is a package of Tellico in the official repository of Mageia 1 and Mageia 2

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll have a look!

I've just spent a very frustrating afternoon trying to get gwhere to compile on Mageia. In theory, you can force it to use GTK+2, but whenever I try, either from the src.rpm or from full source, it fails with multiple errors.

I thought I'd cracked it by editing the specs file, but even though its forced to use gtk2, it still insists on looking for 1.2! And if you overcome that it fails further down the build. I had more luck with the full source, but even then was forced to give up when the compile crashed with obscure errors!

Stupid thing is that it compiles on Slackware perfectly..........!
