[SOLVED] urpmi analogies to apt-get commands

Postby gabo » Sep 17th, '12, 03:51

Hello people,
I've been using linux for almost a year now, I stood loyal to linux mint debian edition, but the lack of security updates and some other issues made me want to change distro, so I discovered Mageia, so far so good, I'm loving it so far especially the control center, but heres where my problem fits in... in all my Linux experience I have only used apt and deb packaging, so after my install I disvover that mageia uses a very different packaging called RPM and theres no apt. So I actually can live without that but I like to play with the console sometimes and I don't know any of this rpm console commands, I want to know how to install and how to uninstall aplications using the console, and maybe some other stuff. Hope you can help. :)

Thanx

Hello Gabo,
Welcome to the Mageia Forum! :)
If you have already installed Mageia, then you have to add the correct media (see here) and then you can install the software for graphics mode via MCC (with the Software Management - see here aand here ) or by text mode, with the commands listed above by Ken-Bergen and Djennings (see here).
