I have downloaded and installed Live Mageia 2 on an old ThinkPad and it is working great. Yes, it SURFS with wifi or ethernet without me killing myself or trying to kill the laptop from the Live disk and then the install. I like the new background for the desktop look and feel that the overall style is very nice. I see familiar names in some of the posts in here and have to say that things seem to be looking up for this group. I think I will stick with this download for a while and see how it goes. It is nice to be able to use the commands in a terminal that I learned for some other distribution somewhere... I will add that I have Atheros based cardbus cards from TP-Link and a Ralink based card from Edimax and also using live disk with Lenovo G570 with some Atheros based chipset and all work great with Mageia 2. I had some funny issues with the beta release but the final release has worked great! KUDOS to MAGEIA!

Been a linux user since 2000, tried different distros, ubuntu opensuse, mint, pclinuxos..
PCLinuxOS was developing very slow and patches came thru very slow.. OpenSUSE was ok, package management wasnt very good still in my opinion..
Also opensuse felt slow and lagging a lot...
Installation of Mageia was a bit buggy in my opinion telling me the partition was full.. While I made root partition 90GB.. after three tries it worked..
Package manager is fast.. Allthrough it is limited in searching.. And what is going to be installed.. "Applied changes"
Repository is big and has all the applications I wanted.. Looks tweaked and finetuned very well.. Everything works out of the box...

This distro has a big potention and thank you developers for this great efford you bring in the distro..

Good day to all,

It feels like entering a new home here. I am coming from the mandriva planet (since 2007), and heard the name Mageia. It created in my mind ideas of wizards, the cauldron to cook magic potions, the fairies, and blacksmiths to forge good tools.
Being amateur blacksmith (with real iron) and now facing a brand new notebook to replace my 10yrs old one running mandriva 2007, the question of what to run on it naturally occurred. I decided to first read and listen about Mageia, I heard and read good comments. So here I am, knocking at its door.
Concretely, the new machine is a UX32VD, or zenbook from asus, and I may wander around the forum to ask whether someone has had any experience with it.
