Device Notifier Problems

Postby bobw » May 30th, '12, 21:07

Mageia 2...KDE Desktop.

After inserting a USB flash drive, Device Notifier hangs - doesn't respond to any of the choices in the list (i.e. Open with File Manager).
Works perfectly on Mandriva 10.2. Anyone else having issues with this?

Update: After 3 minutes, the USB drive is recognized and Dolphin opens. However, Dolphin is totally unresponsive. Running 'top' in a terminal shows roughly 10% CPU usage by the usual processes. Dolphin is dead!

Please open up a terminal, unplug the stick, and as root issue the following command:
Code: Select all
tailf /var/log/messages

and then plugin that stick, and post all added output here.

Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

It seems that the failure is due to a 2nd encrypted partition on the usb drive causing Mageia to choke. Anyone have any ideas?

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
fdisk -l /dev/sdX
where sdX is the device of that usb drive.
Also please give some more informations about the encryption and the setup used there.

I also have a "device notifier" problem. I have not trouble shot it at all because I can open dolphin and do what I want.
What happens with me is that when I put a USB drive or my Kobo (through a USB connection) the device notifier detects it but when I select "open with file manager"
it try's to start a movie and then errors out.
I have been waiting for a update to fix it but after the last big one I still have the problem. Just letting you know of another problem.
If there is anything you want me to do let me know, real busy right now fishing my basement.
